in general it´s better to shoot in HD then SD, but to answer your questions accoring to bitrate for DVD – it´s a little bit difficult to tell you any setting, as it is depending on the duration of your film and the numbers of your audio-streams.

SD is 720×480 (NTSC), or 720×576 (PAL)

you can use any DVD-complient encoder to create MPEG2 for DVD. what´s your budget?!

try using different ones on some test-clips and find out what would be best for you.

I would say – try CCE (cinecraft encoder)…. if you would like to have briliant results.

Hi Bert,
first of all – sounds like you did it all right, so lets do a chross-check.

what will happen, if you try burning a BD from within FCP X? will THIS disc be played within your player?

I would not create a disc-image or burn from within encore, I would use toast to burn the blu-ray using the “burn from HDMV”-option.

these two files normally would be 2 folder:

1. BDMV
2. Certificates

you´ll find some more folders+files within the BDMV-folder and some files within Certificates.

both folders (and their content) are necessary for BD-playback.

according to software-playback on mac: there is no certified BD-player available for it. it´s only available for windows!

what kind of media you are using? I would advice only to use high quality media liek tajo yuden or verbatim.

select your timeline within your project-window > end-action (properties-window) and tell it to go back to the beginning of your timeline.

you can easily import 5.1-AC3 into encore. I would guess that audacity-AC3 will not be spec-compliant (as it´s open source).

encore is checking every asset while importing. you might try to use a different AC3-encoder.

it wont be a good idea to replicate 100 BDs, as there are a lot additional costs, especially the AACS-copy-protection-costs.

if you would like to burn it on your own, be sure to have quality-media like verbatim or tayo juden.

you need to have a REAL BD3D-encoding (MVC) – and authoring-application to create BD3D.

this will be possible with scenarist, Sony Blu-print or DoStudio, nothing else.

seriously – toast is a good alternative to a lot programms (and for very simple BDs).

its using one of the best encoding-algorithms under its surface:
mainconcept encoder.

but this is no real BD-authoring-tool. I prefer BD-spec-authoring like scenarist or EasyBD.

so – what´s your question?

it appears that your transcoded H264-file has been corrupted while encoding.

you need to export the file again from FCP X and start transcoding (again) using compressor.

IF you author the disc within encore you should be able to see if the stream is ok while passing the duration of 10min or not.

windows media player is NO certified DVD/BD-player-software. in that reason it´ll behave strange sometimes. you don´t have any influence on that.
