If your source is clean and you used the high quality ProRes Codec and then exported it to H.264 with high quality settings then I’m not sure where the noise came from.

Can you describe this noise or post a picture of it?

Keyframes to automatic. Forced keyframes at 10x your frame rate so in your case every 300 frames or every 10 seconds, if you still have problems with fades (which you should make last at least 2 seconds) reduce that to every 150 frames

A few observations:

Exporting from FCP is never going to give you good results. Use compressor!

I’m confused by the use of a DV frame size (720×480), square pixels and an anamorphic flag.

You should be using a frame size like 720×400 square pixel – that will give you a correct 16:9 (1.77:1) frame. At the moment your frame aspect ratio is 1.5:1 which is neither 4:3 or 16:9 but somewhere in between.

Correct the frame size, use compressor and things will look much better.

No, not quite right. It uses ‘time’ based on the preferences set relating to datarate in the Encoding preferences plane and the size of the DVD you are using.

There’s no control over a file once it hits DVDSP, so that’s why you send it out of FCP uncompressed, and let it take just one compression hit, or more like a pass, not a hit. “

You’ve got 99% of the above totally wrong. RTFM!!!

If you compress the file with compressor or Episode or any other MPEG2 ‘coder to .M2V + audio, then all DVDSP does it to make VOBs from those files.
