MPEG-2 I-frame at 50Mpbs 4:2:2 is a pretty common intermediate format for broadcasters – over here in the UK at least..I’ve never come across 25Mbps I-Frame in broadcast circles though.

I’d agree – the latest version of the Flash video CODEC – VP6 is stunning and pretty well eveybody can play back Flash content. If I were in your shoes I’d go down the Flash route.

The BBC haven’t adopted it (yet) because of the massive investment they made with Real ages ago but just look at YouTube, google video etc..

Streamed Flash also addresses copy protection issues nicely without getting wrapped up in the mess of Windows media DRM.

You datarate is way way too high (that up there with MPEG-2 DVD datarates). You could easily get away with 1000kbit/s or less at that frame size.

I’d also advise you to increase you keyframe rate to 150 and I’d also experiment with 30fps.

To put it into perspective, apple encode their movie trailers at approx 720kbit/s.

Encoding at 1080i does not really make any sense if your display is 1366×768 as it will be scaling down the frame size and you’ll have wasted a whole bunch of bytes.

Assuming you don’t have either an HD-DVD or BluRay burner/player: Output to standard def PAL or NTSC and leave the plasma’s built-in scaler to do the rest.
