  • Ah. So when using null dolly for positioning the camera, make sure all key frames are enabled for the cam positioning as well, or all positioning for the null, or both?

Yes! I just had this problem yesterday using camera z controls. Annoying – and still trying to wrap my head around it. It has to do with how AE and its adaptive resolution is on the preview screen. My images shrank in size on the screen every time I moved on the timeline until it loaded fully on the preview screen. It might be a preference you can turn off, or maybe pre-comping it might help. I was too time strapped to play around with it.

I had to upgrade to 16GB of ram to alleviate the problem you had. Some effects are really taxing like particles or blurs. Also manipulating embedded large files like photoshop, AI, and pre-rendered videos can slow it down. So if you don’t have enough Ram, your system will hang, and will interrupt the render.

Simply designs 8GB will work, but once you get into more complex effects and compositions, or start using 3rd party plug-ins, you will need 16GB minimum.

  • Are you running multi-core support maybe? I remember Windows 7 doing this before the major updates showing multiple instances in the task manager to display it was using multiple CPU cores during some renders.
