May 22, 2012 at 12:14 am in reply to: ProRes 422 HQ HD 1920 x 1080 export to H.264 comes out interlaced!Hi Matthew, I purposefully avoided providing with any extra details about the settings to avoid confusion as they are the standard ones for HD 1080. (PAL in this case) HDTV 1080 25 Square pixels, 25 fps. I add to the render queue and choose QuickTime>Format options>Video codec H.264.
That is all I do and then press ok…but comes out with fields…
Since the project is Progressive and I am not adding fields to the export module…I really don’t know what is generating them… -
Come on Neil, you are using your common sense which is pretty sound, but when thinking about the way Apple has launched this product. They didn’t announce it as “another” app, but as THE APP.
Everybody here knows what the product does or not for them and they may find it more or less useful for their respective line of work. But Apple shouldn’t try to present it as something which confuses his already established user base.
I am tired of this hyped-up way Apple presents its new products. They keep losing credibility again and again.

Another really good point would also be, which other NLE would you choose to learn how to edit in and investing your time and money as opposed to FCPX?
I would definitely invest my time and money on Avid DS and Smoke, if you already know Avid. I ahve already worked on Premiere CS5 and it also sounds like a good choice as a substitute for FCPX
Lots of choice out there!

Hi Sascha, LOL that was exactly how I was describing this new software to a friend. The editing equivalent to Vista. I think this is going to be a massive flop in the professional world and I can see a lot of heads starting to look elsewhere including myself.
Good for Apple, they have created the first editing tool designed for Youtube and Vimeo, no doubt there is a market, but please, do not try to fool the rest of us.

Sure, I still have it. Can I email it to you?

First of all, thanks so much for your help and apologies for my delay in replying.
To: Michael Szalapski:
Yes Michael, full res.
To Dave LaRonde:
That is good to know Dave, actually, the footage is HDCAM, so I guess it should have been ok with it.
To Kevin Camp:
I was indeed rendering with OpenGL on, but turning it off didn’t sort out the problem in this instance.
What I found was that, when switching off the Depth of field setting on the camera, the video would actually render as in the RAM preview. The effect of the depth of field in RAM preview was minimal so I didn’t need it to be on. What I still cannot understand is how the render from the queue was so soft that you couldn’t even distinguish people’s faces. Would the fact that some of these layers had a lens blur effect on the reason for this? Was there some kind of incompatibility between the camera depth of field settings and the usage of lens blur even when the RAM preview was crystal clear??
Thanks guys,
Daniel

I think that is the wisest thing to do. The Aja card is a Xena SD and I am not sure whether it has the latest drivers as this card has been discontinued. I will investigate and install the new drivers if there are any new ones.
I will come back and report on the developments! Cheers!

November 3, 2010 at 6:53 pm in reply to: External monitor not showing image detailThanks for the reply Michael. Here I have uploaded two sample files so you can see what I mean.
Before I saw your reply I decided to try another system configuration and I imported the same file I opened on Premiere and Avid Media Composer as an uncompressed Animation QuickTime into an Avid DS system. The file opened well there and surprise, surprise, it looked good on its broadcast monitor…
So…I am suspicious about the PC configuration I generated the project on. It is a PC with an Aja Kona card which I assume interfaces with the computer and broadcast monitor giving the final look on the screen.
Since this morning I have noticed not only this problem but also that every graphic I make on After Effects will look sharp and well defined in the PC monitors but ragged and rough on the broadcast monitor.
If I render out and open in it Premiere as an uncompressed QuickTime video, the ragged edges are gone and the picture looks sharp and as it should be, but again, the monitor shows me the video without the text reflections etc…
When I imported the file into the Avid DS the video from After Effects looked as it should.
Once at home I took a sample and opened it up on both Quicktime 7 and Quicktime 10 and they both show the file differently. QT 7 Pro does a good job and shows the file as it should be (here on sample TIFF named “test 7 small”) with the text reflections visible but QuickTime 10 turns these reflections off making them look close to flat (here as TIFF “test 10 small”).
So my guess is that, the way the AJA Kona card in my AE PC is decoding the file back for playback into the broadcast monitor has changed and it is no longer keeping all the colour information for the file in both AE and Premiere. Also, the preview from AE to the monitor is jagged so not sure how to fix this.
Any more thoughts? very much appreciated
Daniel
