The key is to rename all your media beforehand. Attach the reel name to it or something. I’m sure these are obvious workarounds you’ve already thought about, but that’s about the only rock solid solution.
I suppose you can tell by my replies that I use Avid wherever possible.

The only thing it reminded me of is how lazy we as editors have become. Making sure that everyone hears our moans, we judge NLEs like a teenager holding a new smartphone. This clip (when applied to editing software) comes to mind (skip to 1:20 in):

The funny part is that most editors become used to hacking Final Cut or premiers media management, specifically exactly like what you were doing. I much prefer the database system, and have only used premiere Pro CS 6 on one half hour show project to date. It’s a little scary.

Apple’s dp-to-HDMI also works daisy chained off my pegasus. I use it once in a while when I want to hook the computer up to the TV.

Maybe it’s your adapter. I don’t have the LBD, but I have a pegasus raid, and I daisy my secondary monitor off it. I use the apple displayport->DVI converter, which is directly plugged into the 2nd thunderbolt port on the back of the pegasus RAID and it works like a charm without any slowdown.
Your setup sounds identical except for the older generic adapter.

Went full on with Avid. Flirting with Ppro. Still sticking to the Mac platform for now.

Our show shoots with 2 F800’s, nearly identical setup what you’re describing. We’ve never had an issue. It will work.

Yes, I’m curious about this as well. Regardless of people’s personal opinions regarding apples pixel doubling technology in the retina display, it has proven to have excellent black levels as well as whites [both ends of the spectrum are among the best of any laptop ever [. It will be interesting to measure this more in the future.

I most certainly agree it won’t be all that useful. I am buying one, but not for the display. However, I am also getting laser eye surgery in coming weeks, so perhaps it’s a necessary combination! 😉

No, if I have a proper 235 white, and I export as RGB, the white renders out as proper 255 white – not blown out, but very bright of course.. But again – this is viewing on a computer monitor. If you view on your 16-235 monitor, then of course it will look blown out.
