  • Try uploading your AI file so I can take a look.

But you can also do it the old fashioned way:

Enable AICB in illustrator, choosing how you want to copy (I usually choose “Preserve Paths”)
Then select the paths and copy them.
Then paste them onto a solid as masks.
Then use this script to convert the masks to shapes:

Since you say you only have two, you can also manually create a shape layer, manually add a path. Copy/paste one path from illustrator onto the path in AE. Then create another shape path in AE and copy/paste the second AI path to the second AE shape path. Group each separately and add a fill or stroke as needed.

You can duplicate the layer, mask that part of the screen and apply the “Extract” effect. Then raise the black point and black softness to extract the white paper from the shot. Then apply a levels or exposure effect to adjust the paper if there is enough information there.

If you look closely, it only has the illusion that it is coming from behind the text. In reality, it is just coming from behind a solid. You can just create a solid above the lower text in the timeline and in the comp place the solid where the bottom lines up with the bottom of the upper text and set the lower text’s track matte to alpha inverted matte. It will then appear as it moves from behind the solid–you should have no problems with drop shadows.

If I understand correctly, you can track the replacement window in MochaAE–stabilize the corner pin using MochaImport+, then track the stabilized window onto your background plate with a normal corner pin.

I just tested it out, and you need a couple of extra steps in there:

    • Create the side by side comp viewer
    • Create a side by side timeline window
    • Duplicate the layer you want to sync to, drag it to the top and turn the visibility off
    • Use the main comp timeline window to scrub and preview
    • Use the precomp timeline window to make adjustments on a single frame

Dragging the layer to the top of the main comp ensures that the precomp timeline will sync up as you scrub through in the main comp. Don’t scrub in the precomp timeline window or it will sync up with the precomp that has the earliest in point in the main comp.

Also, it wouldn’t hurt to make a feature request to choose which precomp layer you would like to sync to. Go to Help>Send Feedback

    There are two scenarios.

To work inside the precomp timeline:
If you are wanting to sync up while working in the precomp timeline then double click the precomp that you want the main comp to be in sync with–everything should be synced up the way you’d expect. Sometimes it only syncs with the bottom precomp in the main comp–in that case:

    • duplicate the precomp that you would like it to sync up with
    • put it at the bottom
    • and turn the visibility off

To work inside the main comp timeline:
If you are working in the main comp timeline then it will sync with the topmost precomp by default.

    The workaround:

    • duplicate the precomp that you would like it to sync up with
    • put it at the top
    • and turn the visibility off

  • Do you have “Scale and Letterbox Output to Fit Video Monitor” checked in the Preferences?

  • A bit convoluted but you can :

    • use rd_CopyMarkers to copy a span of markers to a Null
    • then use rd_RemoveMarkers to delete the original span of markers,
    • then shift the null,
    • then copy them back onto the original layer.

Still might be faster than the alternative.
