    The way you have it set up, I would think you’d want it like this:

    if (thisComp.layer(“layer1”).transform.position[0] == -102) {
    [value[0], thisComp.layer(“layer1”).transform.position[1]];
    }else{
    value;
    }

    This leaves the layer in its position until layer1 has an x value of exactly -102, then it jumps to the same y value as layer1. Is that what you wanted?

    More like this:

    x=wiggle(2,50)[0];
    y=wiggle(2,50)[1];
    z=value[2];
    [x,y,z];

    February 10, 2007 at 8:42 pm in reply to: Sound Keys – More Randomness?

    It’s not simple because to make it work you need to distinguish one “beat” from another. Here’s an expression for Position that seems to work. You’ll need to edit the first three lines to point to your Sound Keys layer, set the amplitude, and the audio threshold level that defines a new beat.

    level = thisComp.layer(“Medium Purple Solid 2”).effect(“Sound Keys”)(“Output 1”);
    amp = 5.0;
    threshold = 10.0;

    above = false;
    frame = Math.round(time / thisComp.frameDuration);
    n = 0;
    while (true){
    t = frame * thisComp.frameDuration;
    if (above){
    if (level.valueAtTime(t) < threshold){ frame++; n = 1; break; } }else if (level.valueAtTime(t) >= threshold){
    above = true;
    }
    if (frame == 0){
    break;
    }
    frame–
    }
    seedRandom(frame,true);
    angle = random(2*Math.PI);
    value + [Math.cos(angle),Math.sin(angle)]*amp*level

    You should be able to do this by pre-comping, enabling time remapping, creating a keyframe where you want the looping to begin, and adding this time remapping expression:

    loopOut(“cycle”,1)

    OK – as an experiment – create a bunch of (7 or 8) 75×20 solids, move the anchor points to the left edge, line them up left-to-right so they make a continuous horizontal “pipe”, and make each layer the parent of the layer to its right. Then select all the layers and adjust the rotation all at the same time (-7 degrees should do). This should give you a nice arc. If this is the kind of look you’re going for, you could contect all the rotation properties to a single slider (via an expression) to control the shape of the arc.

    You might need a more complicated expression, but without seeing what you’re doing, it’s hard to be more specific.

    No, unfortunately there is no thisProperty.name attribute.

    Ooops, left off the semicolon:

    seedRandom(index,true);

    Just add this to the front of your expression:

    seedRandom(index,true)

    OK – play around with this. Add a slider control to each of your segments and add this expression to the slider:

    minDuration = 5;
    maxDuration = 7;

    tEnd = 0;
    n = 0;
    seedRandom(n, true);
    preRun = random(maxDuration);
    while (time + preRun >= tEnd){
    n++;
    seedRandom(n,true);
    dur = random(minDuration, maxDuration);
    tEnd += dur;
    }
    t = time + preRun – (tEnd – dur);

    Add this expression to Opacity:

    fadeIn = 18;
    hold = 90;
    fadeOut = 18;

    d = thisComp.frameDuration;

    t = effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”);

    Math.min(linear(t,0,fadeIn*d,0,100), linear(t,(fadeIn + hold)*d,(fadeIn + hold + fadeOut)*d,100,0));

    Add a Fill effect and add this expression to Fill Color:

    fadeIn = 18;
    hold = 90;
    fadeOut = 18;

    minColor = [.5,.5,.5,1];
    maxColor = [.75,.75,.75,1];

    seedRandom(index,true);

    onColor = random(minColor,maxColor);
    offColor = random(minColor,maxColor);

    d = thisComp.frameDuration;

    t = effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”);

    if (t < fadeIn * d){ linear(t,0,fadeIn,offColor,onColor); }else{ linear(t,(fadeIn + hold)*d,(fadeIn + hold + fadeOut)*d,onColor,offColor); } See if that gets you closer. Dan

    If I use http://ftp.ckandco.net, I at least get to an ftp logon screen, but it wants a username and password.
