    Hey Andrea,

If the rotobrush is giving you problems, you could try manually rotoing the footage by using the Pen tool, depending on how long your footage is. Or, you can duplicate the footage and use the Pen tool around the area that gets accidentally keyed out. Again, this depends on the length of the footage.

The Primatte keyer from Red Giant works wonders but it’s pretty expensive. Other than that, you could try using multiple Color Key effects or the Color Range effect. Maybe Keylight? It’s always hard keying out a background when that color is present elsewhere.

Now, to your transparency question. When keying out a color, it removes said color from the entire footage. Your footage probably has some shades of black in the remaining footage that is keyed out along with the background. Since there is no longer color there, it leaves a hole which is the transparency you see.

I hope all this helped. Good luck!

  • I’m not quite clear what you are create. Are you trying to have those 1000 pictures individually parented to you SK layer or do you have those pictures in comps and you want those comps to be affected by SK?

Either way, I don’t think SK can switch between images. What I would do, going off of Joseph’s post, is mark the point when you want the switch to take place (Shift+8). Then place your two comps into the composition. At the marked point, hit Alt+Left Bracket on the top comp and Alt+ Right Bracket on the bottom comp. This should make your comps switch at the bookmarked point. You can achieve this effect also by key framing the opacity of each layer.

This is really tedious if you have to do it for all of the photos. But I don’t know another way.

All layers are 3D layers and yes, I have motion blur on for some objects and not for others.

I will try the Mesh Warp but I am unsure of what you mean by cheat a shadow? If you could clarify, that would be immensely helpful. Thank you.

Basically, I am trying to make a laser writer with Particular and I have no idea how to do make one. Also, the Beam effect doesn’t work for my particular project.

I know how to make my own stock footage. Under normal circumstances I would make my own but I am currently doing a 48 hour project to balance while attending my other classes so making my own is really not a viable option. That is why I asked my original question.

I fixed the problem. I applied the Particular to an adjustment layer instead of a blank solid. I fixed it and it works fine now. Thanks anyway.
