I’ve just hit this road block when trying to conform a project from proxies back to source media. From what I can gather, a merged clip is essentially creating a new ‘clip’ inside the project, that kind of references the source media (stored on HDD) but not the source media inside the project from which the Merged clip was created from… Seems dumb to me!

I ended up exporting an xml file, and manually changing the file’s directory/path to where the source media is saved, then importing the edited xml in a new project. This got me half way.

Definitely look into the workflow if you’re thinking about using merged clips!!

Does anyone know if a better solution would be to create Subclips instead of Merged clips (especially when syncing external audio and proxy files)?

    Cheers,
    Dan

    Hey Peter,

    Hope all is well.

Is an update for this issues on Adobe’s agenda? This is a major setback in post workflow.

    Cheers,

Ok, I’ve changed the deck settings from DVCAM to DV using the remote.

Will I need to re-capture all the footage because of the different running speeds of each format?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hey Andy,

To change these settings, is this done on the deck itself or in FCP?

On the deck, input select is ‘DV’, but looking closer the light on the front of the unit labled ‘DVCAM’ is on.
In Final Cut, all my capture settings say ‘DV’ – I can’t see ‘DVCAM’ anywhere?

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Do I need to recapture all the footage, as I assume it will be running faster than it should?

    Thanks for the feedback,

The other question I thought of is the cameras shooting modes. I work in PAL and can shoot 25P with the AGDVXC. Do you know if the XL1S is progressive or just interlaced?

TVC = television commercial. Must just be Aussie slang!

The AGDVX 100 I have is the 1st model, so it doesn’t have 16:9 capability. The other question i thought of is the cameras shooting modes. I work in PAL and can shoot 25P with the AGDVXC. Do you know if the XL1S is progressive or just interlaced?

That’s great, thanks for all of the advice.

The autorun.ini method for automatically opening your video on disc insertion is fairly straight forward. You create a text document (in notepad, NOT MS Word) with the text below, save it as a .txt document, then rename it autorun.ini and include it at the root level of the CD along with your video file.

I work off a Mac, so can either burn from the finder or using Toast. Is this method for PC only or can i do this on Mac aswell?

Thanks Daniel. Sounds like there’s no definite solution but this appears to be the best option. Hard to believe we can put a man on the moon but can’t play a DVD on another computer!! Go Windows!

    Thanks for your advice,
    Dan
