Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but if you hold down the option key while pressing a letter, a special character will be typed.

You could try expanding the In/Out/Duration/Stretch pane (lower left corner of your timeline window) and enter or scrub your duration to 400%. Another way is to use time remapping but might be more useful if you want to ramp your speed of the clip.

I think what I am seeing here is an interlacing flicker. Try picking your clip and under the effects menu choose video/Reduce Interlace Flicker.

    Colin,

Alt arrow keys. Way better solution. I learned something today.
    Thanks.

I know if you used path text to create your text you can control the kerning between specific characters in your effects control window. Under character/kerning.

You could try to set keyframes under Value/Offset/Random Max to be closer in value. Or set keyframes further apart.

    Jeff,

This may sound a bit simplistic. Have you tried rendering your project. I’ve had similar jerky stills but after rendering looked fine.

You may want to try pre-composing your text layer.

Select your text layer and goto layer menu. Select pre-compose.
be sure to remove the effect that is causing the problem first.
Selecting move all attributes will keep all keyframable actions with the original file.

This will create a new composition that is the same size as the original composition.
and the original text layer is now a composition.

Now all effects will be bounded by the edges of the composition not the text itself.

October 27, 2005 at 4:31 pm in reply to: quick mask import to FCP

Generally you want to select the area that you want to use in FCP. (use the magic wand/lasso tool/or whatever selection tool you like best) and cut out the rest of the picture. You can use quick mask to “paint” out the area you want to select.
Go to the select menu and choose save selection)
You need not name and hit save. It will automatically save it as an alpha channel.

You might need to flatten the image before you import it into FCP.

Did you save it with an alpha channel? I’ve found that saving your graphics with an alpha will do the trick. You may also need to flatten the image after you have saved the alpha. I have also saved the image as a PNG and that imports into FCP prety well.
