  • There is no “Blackmagic” DV codec. The Blackmagic codec is uncompressed. Try using one of the “easy setups” so that the pixel format will match your input. You maybe trying to capture to a nonexistent codec.

  • What model DVCAM deck are you using? Is you intention to edit uncompressed Blackmagic 8 bit or edit DV in Apple DV codec? The reason I ask is you can’t mix the two on the same timeline.

The Supermicro X5DAE is a great AGP dual Xeon board (2.8Ghz or higher) that supports Decklink SP.

You can also use Decklink SP with a lower cost Supermicro P4SCT+II Pentium 4 3.0 GHz or higher.

Most nvidia based graphics cards will work fine with no issues. Not all boards will support multi-monitor configs.

BTW, the board you mentioned – the SE-7525gp2 doesn’t support AGP cards. It only takes PCI Express 16x and x4.

You can add an extra PCI based nvidia card to support a 3rd monitor.

No the Matrox card is not supported.

I’d suggest you try an Nvidia based card such as the Quadro4 for multi-montiors.

I’ll have to agree with Peter. There is no need to take cheap shots at Blackmagic. The purpose of this forum is to HELP people with problems and share ideas, not to act like immature school children.

This is not the first time your posts have been removed – attacking people personally only shows you are unprofessional. Please leave this at the door in the future.

  • If you are capturing from Analog, there is a Proc Amp tab in the Blackmagic Decklink System Prefs. You can adjust the “chroma gain” until the captured video isn’t faded.

Ambient Tri-level “Lockit” box (ACL 202CT) is approx. $1200.

These are quite handy to have kicking around and do generate Tri-level sync at both 24p and 23.98p + you can attach them to your camcorder and use them in the field when you aren’t in the studio. 😉 You can get it at B&H Photo.

It would be unlikely you would get better image quality by capturing with a card with an S-video input. The video is decompressed off of the tape and then converted to analog.
Usually the lower end S-video capture cards are consumer oriented and don’t support uncompressed video capture. Decklink cards do not support capture from S-video.

If you want improved quality from DV (especially with PAL, which is 4:2:0), you can capture via SDI from a DVCAM deck that has SDI outputs to uncompressed 4:2:2 with a Decklink card. This will help you with compositing and chroma key.
