Hi,
There’s a little button at the bottom right of the File Browser window called “Show Image Sequences As Collapsed”. Turn it off and you’ll see your individual files.

Yes, there is.
To get your Grow/Shrink behaviour to stop you’ll have to use another behaviour.
Choose Behaviour > Parameter > Stop and set it in the Inspector to Apply to Transform > Scale > Both.
Finally shorten the Stop behavior to start where you want the layer to freeze.
Bingo!

i) Scale your layer down in the inspector first (to 0% or a bit above depending on your taste).
ii) Add both Spin and Grow/Shrink behaviours to your layer. Move your CTI to where you want the paper to stop and then adjust the behaviours up to the level you want. Remember, Grow/Shrink needs a positive value to grow :o)
iii) If you haven’t already got it open, open up your Timeline viewer (F6).
iv) Shorten your Spin behaviour to end at the frame you want. To get your Grow/Shrink behaviour to stop you’ll have to use another behaviour. Choose Behaviour > Parameter > Stop and set it in the Inspector to Apply to Transform > Scale > Both. Finally shorten the Stop behavior to start where you want the paper to freeze.
v) You’re done. Turn on Motion Blur when you render out (and use the View dropdown to see it whilst you work if you want). One spinning newspaper.

Select the layer you want to reverse then choose Layer > Time > Time-Reverse layer.
Easy as that!

Another wee caveat is that (as normal) projects are not backward compatible, so you won’t be able to open AE8 projects in AE7. Maybe not an issue for you, but something to consider if you’re transfering projects between computers.

Other than that, if you want a few stills to practice on then look at The Foundry’s site. If that’s not enough then I’d recommend this one as the best place to go or check out some of the folks who advertise footage on this site.

Boris Continuum Complete has almost all bases covered. The Pixel Chooser lets me limit the effect or create certain styles without having to use multiple layers. It’s a real timesaver.

Welcome to the glorious world of rotoscoping.
Draw a mask (or masks, as this will probably makee it easier to have separate masks for different areas), keyframe, move further into the footage, move masks, lather, rinse, repeat. It’s fun. No really.
If you’ve got some budget then take a serious look at Motor, it is a revelation. Otherwise, settle in and relax with your iPod and Wacom tablet.

These are part of the Cycore plug-ins and have to be installed separately. Just pop your install DVD in and there they’ll be.
Then you’ll have CC Rain ready and waiting for you next time you launch After Effects.
