I purchased AE 7.0 Pro through the internet and had no problem installing or activating the product. But – i appear to be unable to register the product. The seller claimed that i would be entitled to a free upgrade to CS3 – which online documentation would seem to support.

Is registration a common problem with Adobe? or – is this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach an indication that something is seriously wrong here? Could activation bomb out after 30 days if i am unable to get this resolved? How helpful is Adobe with such problems?

I just installed Premiere Pro 2 and After Effects 7 and they both registered fine. I purchased mine direct from Adobe and yes, they do offer a free upgrade to CS3 when it ships. Perhaps someone at Adobe can help you get registered – they have a great Customer Service department on their website. I’ve been using their products for many years and have never had a problem with them.
    Good Luck,
    Cathy

Activation and registration are two different things. You need to activate the product to use it, but you need to register it to be eligible for upgrades and support.

If the previous owner registered the product in his/her name, they will have to fill out a form with Adobe verifying that they are transferring their license to you as the new owner. Without being able to register it in your name, you will NOT get any upgrades from Adobe, ever. If it denied your registration, chances are 99% that the previous owner registered it in their name, and either knowingly ripped you off (Ebay, anyone?) or should be willing to transfer the license.

Give Adobe support a call. I had a problem with a registration and they sorted it out within two minutes.

This should defintely 100% be your first port of call. Check out their website to find your local contact number.

    Cheers,
    Ben
