Nope. After Effects projects are backwards compatible only (eg AE7 projects will open in CS4).

No problems! Your black and white conversions will never be the same again :o)

If you want to give it a bit of a tint after getting the b&w done, then just tip the U or V slightly above or below the centre point.

    Ben

  • Well how about doing this instead:

Open up your comp settings and double the frame rate. So if you’re working at 25fps change the comp to 50, if 29.97 then up to 59.94 with you! And so on.

    Good luck with your project,
    Ben

Easy way – create a couple of shape layers and keyframe the Transform properties or create a couple of solids and keyframe Scale.

Use text animation to bring the text in. Browse Presets and you’ll see loads in “Animate In”.

Find out more about Shapes and Shape layers and Text Animation in After Effect’s help file.

You’re doing it right – that’s the way it is. There’s other ways to get that new keyframe in, of course, but that’s the way to go.

I just hit O to take me to the clip’s out-point, add a keyframe there, delete the final one and get on with things.

You will be able to give yourself a “crunchier” black and white effect with the YUV curves in ColorFX.

Flatten U&V so that they lie completely horizontally and directly through the centre. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to see if they’re off centre pretty easily.

Then use a gentle (or not-so-gentle) S-curve in the Y, and you’ve got yourself a much nicer, custom B&W filter, which you can save to use again and again.

    All the best,
    Ben

Export Using Quicktime Conversion will always add a compression hit to your footage, as it transcodes it from one codec to another, or even into the same codec.

Export > Quicktime movie is faster and won’t give you that hit.

  • Interested about the effect you’re after, but here goes:

Like bogiesan said, an alternating one pixel thin set of lines is the way to go. Personally, I like the Grid filter and have set up a Grid preset to act as a alpha track matte (or inverted alpha track matte if you want the other field).

Just make it a pixel wider than your comp width and set the anchor point x-dimension off screen. You can check out my ffx preset if you want.

    All the best,
    Ben

Yep. You had all the keyframes selected, and played around with one of the numbers in the mask path box probably.

This changed all the selected keyframes to the same value. Eurgh! Undo undo undo, or go back to a backup.

    Good luck,
    Ben
