It’s a cloner object dropping a few cubes onto a plane. However, if I render out a still frame, the cpu still spikes.

Thank you. Took a look at those and still can’t get the left side to show up. Any ideas? Thank you very much.

    Hi Anthony,

I’m not sure if you’ve found anything yet, but I was working on a very similar shot a few weeks ago and someone showed me how a few minutes in AE/FCP, manipulating simple things like scale, rotation, etc looks much better than a plugin. The example I was shown, went in on individual frames and randomly scaled the shot up, then down, then rotated it, then a freeze frame, then a random white flash, etc. The point was that true randomization, in the end, looked so much better than a plugin and one frame “distortions” looked more realistic and cool. Hope that helps a little, good luck!

    Hey guys,

Thank you both for your fast replies.

I always use the render queue when exporting, however, I haven’t got to that point yet with this project. So far, I received the uncompressed HD footage, made a 264 from it using QT 7 and am now a/b’ing them in AE. I will definitely try and make a ProRes version instead of 264 before I do anything else. Is it ok to use QT 7 for something like this or is that where I’m picking up the gamma problem? I’ll have to read up on Color Management as well.

Listen to Greg’s advice. I just completed a similar shot in Maya (a locked down shot however) and I created stand-in geometry in Maya to catch the shadows cast by the object. Make sure that in Maya, you match the camera data to that of your live action cam. You can get camera stats at https://www.dpreview.com.

    Good luck!

    Hey Mo,

Do you have a clean version along with a “makeup” version of the face? If so, you could animate a mask, revealing the makeup.

By no means am I an expert on this, but I think this type of problem would need a scene by scene paint job. How many frames is the shot?

Not having to re-render clips if you move them or add trans to them seems like a HUGE improvement…something like this is worth $300 to me easily.
