Michael I started your survey….but it got way too long and I quit.

That’s just too many questions. It got ridiculous.

I already gave at the office.

    FYI.

September 13, 2007 at 8:48 am in reply to: Boris Continuum Complete installation question.

I did not bother to uninstall BCC in AE7 when I installed BCC 5 in AE8 and I seem no worse for it.

    Hope that helps.

Considering the ads that people usually see on local TV in small to medium sized towns–that is nothing short of a masterpiece.

More importantly I bet the ad is EFFECTIVE.

    Congrats!

September 11, 2007 at 1:03 am in reply to: Audio Woes

I was recently having some audio preview files with AE8 and my Mac.

I have a hunch my problems were not of the same origin as yours but I’ll tell you how I fixed mine.

In addition to the built-in audio capability my Mac has a 3rd party firewire audio card. I UNINSTALLED all the drivers for that and then deleted the AE prefs file.

I quit AE and then went into my sound prefs and reset all my drivers to the built-in defaults.

Then again deleted prefs and relaunched AE.

That seemed to resolve everything for me.

I can’t remember with 100% certainty so let me break it down

    1. I KNOW running Disk Utility: Repair Permissions from the boot drive DOESN’T fix the problem
    2. I KNOW running DiskWarrior from it’s own boot disk DOES fix the problem.
    3. I think that MAYBE running Apple’s own Disk Utility from the Apple CD-ROM does fix the problem.

I have had this EXACT same problem–and I do have a solution.

Caveta: You may have to go back and repeat the fix down the road.

The problem is ALWAYS with that little AE pref file. Go figure. You need to run disk utility from the CD and repair your permissions. I also have had similiar success using DiskWarrior by Alsoft.

Again though the problem has resurfaces a couple of times since I first saw it. (It started for me back when I was using the beta version of AE8).

Boris Continuum 5 is certainly compatible with Mac and Intel.

If you are installing 4 then the plug-in will not show up because it is emphatically NOT compatible with the Intel native platform.

August 31, 2007 at 7:49 pm in reply to: AE Continuum: Is there a manual?

I think for such an extensive suite of tools — and with the pricetag — that a manual should REALLY be made available.

There certainly was a manual for the last version of Continuum that I owned.

Hopefully the 5.01 patch will resolve my crashes.

I will re-enable OpenGL and see how it goes.

I’ll try to contextual help out. I still must say that there is a reason most all software applications have manuals (printed or PDF).

    Thanks for your reply.

Kevin I don’t think you speak accurately when you describe Windows as the larger market–not in this case.

After Effects started on the Mac and still has as many users as Windows, from my understanding.

I asked an Adobe AE support tech that very question recently and he said it was about even.

Leopard will feature many advances in OpenGL and Quicktime handling. It will be interesting to see where all this lands in a year.

August 31, 2007 at 2:55 am in reply to: Why is 3d layer warp so sloooooow

I guess what I was expecting was something similar in speed to CCSphere or a Boris DVE filter.

I guess what layer warp does is more complex but it seems radically slower than those filters…frankly it seems radically slower than Invigorator.
