    Hello.

My name is Michael Coleman and I’m the product manager for Adobe After Effects. One of the best parts of being on the After Effects team is how much interaction we have with our customers. We visit many of you just to hear what you have to say about After Effects and the projects you are working on. While this is informative and a lot of fun, eventually we have to head home and get to work!

Since we can’t speak with every one of you personally, we’re also conducting a web survey about After Effects usage. You are invited to take a few minutes of your time to tell us a few things about yourself, your projects, and your workflow. You’ll also get a chance to indicate which potential features are most important to you. We often use surveys like this to guide future development efforts.

Please go to the URL below to get started. It will probably take about 15 minutes to complete the survey. It is hosted at Surveymonkey.com:

We know you probably have a million things to do, but if you can take some to have a little influence on the After Effects team, we’d certainly appreciate it.

The information we gather is just for Adobe’s use and we promise not to do anything annoying with your survey responses. All data will be kept confidential. No information about you will be sold or furnished to any other company whatsoever, nor will you receive unsolicited e-mails because of your participation in this survey.

You may see another survey invitation from me on other forums or e-mail lists or on my new blog (https://blogs.adobe.com/keyframes/). It’s the same survey and there’s no need to do the survey more than once.

On behalf of the entire After Effects team, thanks!

that was a long survey, if it had not been for your personal touch I would have faltered long before half way!

I will definitely take this survey. While I have a member of the development team on the forum however… I’d like to know if there are any plans to fix the functionality of importing layers from a PSD. It seems that Layer Sets in the PSD cause some problems when using this function and will cause the wrong layer to be imported, or no layer at all.

That has to be the most annoying thing, so far, I’ve found about AE CS3 =)

20 minutes into this thing and I was still only 3/4s of the way through it.

    Not cool guys.

It was a well thought out survey in my view. It’s not a simple application, so there was quite a bit to go through.

I appreciated that although they were sparse, there were boxes to write fuller, more meaningful answers. But you should probably grab a large cup of coffee before you start and the time will fly by.

Yep, it’s long, but it covers a lot of ground. I welcome the survey.

Can the After Effects Team do something about the crap support from the ASN Partner team? Some tyrant-wannabe a–hole took off my profile from Training Partner Finder without my knowledge after I wanted to change my PERSONAL profile.

This a–hole is screwing around with my ability to make a decent living, traning folks in AE.

Sorry for the OT rant but this just happened today and I am totally boiling cos’ this isn’t the first time that I’ve been screwed or undermined deliberately by this tyrant and his team’s actions.

It’s rather sad to have a great product undermined by a devilish support team that acts like a tyrant.

    Cheers

I’m not complaining. Anytime a large software company, whose products I earn my living from, asks me what I think of it, I’m willing to spend an HOUR answering questions, and giving opinions.

It really appears that much thought was put into the multiple choice usage profile section, and that they are listening. Now if only AVID would do the same, they might be around for another year or two.

I also find the PS Layer thing to fantastic pain in the rear. I suspect that layer sets text layers are problematic. This has to be addressed immediatley PLEASE!

Beyond that the most annoying thing I find about the new AE is when I switch between 1/4 res 1/2 res and Full res preview, it seems to take a very long time. I even get the beach ball sometimes, and yes it happens when going higher to lower. This used to be much more instantaneous.

I aslo find that dragging out layers, work area in and outs, and interacting with 3D vertices is a little buggy. Like either the hotspot is super small, or just doesn’t let you grab it.

One thing I would love to see is the active layer in the timeline LOOK more active, as in more textured or whatever. The difference is too subtle and knowing which layer is active is pretty handy with out having to look for subtle gradations in color. I remember when it used to be really obvious up to and thru AE6.5

    Otherwise kickbutt.

    thx,

    G

I’m only half the thing I say I am, the other half are me.
