Thanks, Randy. Your reply was very helpful!
I kept thinking there would be a simple attribute like in AE. I had not used the Display tag. That’s the quick way, it appears…which is what I was looking for.
Yes, using a gradient within the alpha channel is powerful for wiping an object in, from any angle or from the core out, etc.
Again, many thanks.

September 20, 2010 at 11:17 pm in reply to: 2-pass encodes failing in Adobe Media Encoder CS5 MacI can’t give you a recommendation.
But for me…I’ll only reinstall the whole Suite if I’m cornered into it. (takes forever)

September 20, 2010 at 10:08 pm in reply to: 2-pass encodes failing in Adobe Media Encoder CS5 MacEntire suite!
With all my plugins, scripts, etc…for AE, Flash, PSD…that would take me a full day.
I’m thinking of buying DV Kitchen.
Over the past 5-7 years… Adobe seems to get sloppier and sloppier about all kinds of things.
My hunch is that it’s their increased reliance on cheap Indian programmers.

September 14, 2010 at 8:54 pm in reply to: 2-pass encodes failing in Adobe Media Encoder CS5 MacI had this exact same problem.
Adobe rep said it’s a known issue and the only way is to
-Uninstall Adobe Suite
-Restart
-Reinstall Adobe SuiteThey said it’s a problem with the Dynamic Link….and that they’ve fixed it on PC, but don’t have a Mac fix.
For me, that’s like a death sentence. With all my plugins and scripts…it takes a full day to do a reinstall.
I’ve been using Quicktime Pro, limping along….

Joe, thanks for your reply.
I was not working in-house.
I know it would be burning a bridge…but they’ve got some cheap in-house talent now.
Nevertheless as I’ve thought about it I decided against it.

June 4, 2010 at 2:13 am in reply to: After Effects user unite — for a request to Adobe & to VendorsTodd,
I don’t see any listing of version numbers. That’s the salient point here.
Maybe there are fewer people annoyed than I thought by the time required to scour sites for updates.

Steve I have seen the exact bug you are talking about and for now it’s pushed me back to using CS4.
It’s a pretty nasty bug. My audio track suddenly was all over the place…sometimes even doubling up on top of itself…e.g. 20 seconds into a commercial spot I’d start to get the first few seconds of audio flooding back in.

Sweet. Thanks for the word, Todd!

I upgraded to the Master Suite CS5 last week.
I tested a few renders…and unsurprisingly I could render longer sections…and yes it seems brisker. I can’t quantify that yet. Little thing, but I do like how all the apps open and quit faster, and feel more robust.
Here’s the thing…and I knew this *before* I purchased….
I won’t be able to use CS5 daily until I reach critical mass with my 3rd party updates. So far I have about 25% of my third party plugins updated, and maybe 50% of my most essential.
I still need to look into migrating my scripts…Some of these might still work fine…I don’t know yet.
I would think within the next few weeks that I’ll be able to start most new projects in CS5.
My goal was: start the migration early…chip away at it… It’s time consuming. I think most of the vendors have been fair with upgrade pricing, but it adds up.
Note:
Cycore and Zaxwerks are currently vague about when they’ll have updates available. I don’t know what to make of that. Maybe they are just trying to not over-promise.Life is full of funny particles.

Summer? 3rd quarter? If you want to couch it in tentative terms…then we will accept it in the same fashion.
Thanks
