It’s probably not an issue of testing but one of politics and ‘strategic’ business decisions.

Remember 422 is Apple’s baby and Adobe is a competitor. It’s also new.

    As a point of comparison…

I completely forgot there was even such a thing as the “Adobe Media Encoder” until this past week when I was working my way through the back of the AE manual.

I don’t think Apple ever offered much support for that.

If 422 achieves widespread acceptance (probably will) then I would expect Adobe will be forced to get on with the program.

I’m no expert but here’s my two bits.

I would try to identify what your variables are:

1 How many bounces per line?
2 What are the X Position values for the bounces?

    Then it gets trickier
3 What are the Time values for each bounce?
4 What are the Time values for each hold duration?

This does sound like a full-blown plug-in of its own.

    Whew. Not easy.

I SHARE your PAIN. Beyond inept.

I am calling again…on hold this very second. Again. I was charged 9 days ago on my card for AE8 but haven’t received.

Every time I call it takes 20 minutes to identify me–and it’s as if they have to sort through 20 databases to identify my order number.

I cannot imagine how complicated they are making the simplest of things.

I respect the wisdom of waiting until a project is complete. There are ALWAYS gotchas in a migration like this. After Effects isn’t like MS Word or some other self-contained app.

    We would all agree-it’s a complete eco-system.

I have been using the beta and I should get my full version tomorrow or the next day (I know they hit my debit card last week)…but I fully anticipate bouncing between versions until all my third-party plugins are updated.

They won’t work in AE8 on Intel. This is the case with a number of plug-ins that have yet to be updated for Universal Binary.

I am keeping a legacy version 7 on my Intel Mac Pro so I can use a number of old plug-ins. I too own a number of DigiEffects plug-ins. In a pinch you render out with alpha and pull the clip into AE8 for further production.

BTW those plug-ins are flying under new ownership and purportedly the new company will be releasing new AE products. I don’t know the future of the old plug-ins.

    LOL, Mike_P.

I’ve got too little time to animate. AE8 cuts right to the point.

Assuming that this is a political move–we can’t just blame Adobe.

These games are going back and forth. Apple has done the same thing to Adobe (and all of us as customers) by omitting Flash from the iPhone.

Gizmodo proposes (with good reasoning) that this was a ‘business’ decision.

Hopefully as Flash will soon make it’s way to the iPhone–so OpenGL support will soon make its way to AE8 on Intel.

I don’t dispute that the issue could be a geopolitically oriented business move….nor would I stand confident that the problem will be short-lived.

    I have no idea.

I am hoping that Adobe realizes it isn’t prudent to screw the professional creative community and that there was a GL problem with some final features…that prevented a timely release. We’ll see!

    True…at least for now…

This is the statement on the Adobe site:

A note to Mac OS X users: Adobe After Effects CS3 does not currently support OpenGL accelerated previews and OpenGL rendering on PowerPC or Intel-based Macs. Adobe and the After Effects team are deeply committed to continuing our tradition of high performance on the Mac platform and are working closely with Apple to resolve the issues. Adobe will incorporate Mac OpenGL improvements in After Effects as soon as possible. Please continue to check this page for the latest information.
