After Effects CS3 does not properly interpret Apple ProRes 422 files during import as 1440×1080 (1.33). Instead it imports it as 1920×1080 (1.0)… which makes ProRes unsuitable as a production codec until AE or Apple fixes this issue.

CS3 fixed the interpretation bug with HDV footage, only to have it affect ProRes. Don’t the people at Apple or Adobe test their products?

Anyway, the workaround is to ditch ProRes and use AIC instead.

It’s probably not an issue of testing but one of politics and ‘strategic’ business decisions.

Remember 422 is Apple’s baby and Adobe is a competitor. It’s also new.

    As a point of comparison…

I completely forgot there was even such a thing as the “Adobe Media Encoder” until this past week when I was working my way through the back of the AE manual.

I don’t think Apple ever offered much support for that.

If 422 achieves widespread acceptance (probably will) then I would expect Adobe will be forced to get on with the program.
