They could have avoided this fallout by just saying from the beginning what’s missing and what their time table is for getting it up to speed. While they are good at what the do, they are also stubborn as hell.

Having said that, I will continue to use FCP7 because it does what I need for the moment. I see a lot of potential in this new app the same way I saw it for the iPad when people were acting juvenile and making fun of the name. Some were saying they had no use for it and so on. Now no one makes fun of the name and every company is racing to get one to the market.

I am a bit disappointing that its not ready for prime time but it’s potential is great IMO.

During the demo, they showed a big project opened in both 7 and X. He mentioned that it was the exact same project with the same cuts and transitions. I think that was your hint. Why would they rebuild that extensive project? I think they wanted to show that you could not only open those projects, but also make them less cumbersome with the grouping/nesting feature.

A man walks into a bar and sits down. He proceeds to pull from his pocket a little tiny piano, a little tiny man and tiny bench. The little man sits on the bench and begins to play the tiny piano.

The bar tender says that is neat. Where did you get that? The man then pulls out a lamp and say rub it and make a wish. The bar tender rubs the lamp and says I wish I had a million bucks!. A few moments later, a duck walks into the bar, then another duck, and another until the bar is full of ducks.

The bar tender says, man your lamp is busted. I asked for a million BUCKS not a million DUCKS! The man says, who you tell’n, do you think I asked for a 9 inch pianist?! (BA-DUM-BUMP!)

  • I saw transitions on the timeline. He put in a couple of Cross-fades.

Reality Distortion Field? Hmmm… did you make that up yourself? Of course not, you heard it from someone else and decided to regurgitate. How about Fan Boy? Nope, every 15 year old with a PC has used that to dismiss the views of others. The fact is, you must live in a distortion field if all the footage you get is properly shot. You are the one that introduced the flame junior, not me.

I’m not a fan boy. I just watched the demo and decided for myself that these are pro features. I didn’t need to read someones column to make up my mind. If you shoot anything with CMOS you will encounter some rolling shutter. If you shoot with a DSLR, you probably have an HN4 recorder that you will sync with your scratch track. That’s why folks use Plural Eyes. I wouldn’t be so quick to call someone a Fan Boy because they can see the value in something you can not.

If you watched any of the videos posted today you would see that they know exactly what the final product is. From what I’ve seen, it seems to be very well thought out. You even have to read between the lines when watching. Take note of the full car commercial video being produced in the demo. The color correction, graphics and lower-thirds were created I’m sure by FC or the rest of the unseen suite.
