In this case my client has a client and their client didn’t get back to them, so I’ve just been informed.

At least your client is giving you promises. After delivering the 2nd rough cut, the client simply didn’t respond . . . for 7 months. The client hasn’t brought me any other work either. Just disappeared . . . until a few days ago. They’re willing to pay in advance before the next edit date so even if the date shifts, it’s paid for. Just sorta odd that there was no word whether the job was killed, delayed or anything else.

There’s nothing more expensive than loosing archived masters. Note the specific brands mentioned by John and I.

XDCAM Transfer tool DOES WORK ON NON INTEL MACS. I have it running on G5 Mac.
Only Clip Browser doesn’t run on PPC Macs

If it isn’t in the 1st class category the disc is the risk and likely the issue. DVD-DL is VERY SECURE if you get good discs.
I get Verbatim only and if I had to chose another it would be Taiyo Yuden.

Please mention the brand(s) involved because sometimes it a manufacturer issue. Not all DL-DVDs are of the same quality.
One can have bad tape stock. That does not mean all tape is bad. One can have a hard drive crash. That does not mean all hard drives are equally risky.

Not all brands are the same. I use Verbatim R+ DL-DVD 95123 and they’ve been reliable so far.

I did a few tests some weeks back in just this area. All my encodes were H264 .mov from XDCAM EX HD source.
I found that 480×270 at 3000kbps looked horrible and only showed as standard quality
640×360 at 5000kbps look very good at high quality. Going to larger frame size or higher data rate had no significant improvement in quality. -
It’s hard to make a judgment without seeing a link.
YouTube now has a High Quality and a Standard Quality setting for playback. Did you make sure you enabled High Quality playback when you viewed the results on YouTube?

Try adjusting kerning or leading. You have to go back into the Boris window, tweak, back out to see what you’ve done.
