Okay, I get it. It was free — but you had to read the fine print, including avoiding a reinstall, ’cause then it’s not free anymore — except that it’s free for 2 weeks. Right???
Seems to me that the purpose of a loss leader should be to make you feel good about the provider, not to piss off potential clients. But at least I learned about how Boris deals with people — for free, sorta…

One advantage to shooting it in real time and speeding it up in post is that if you have a distraction moving through the frame i.e a bird that moves through a TL sequence of clouds and ends up as an annoying black streak, you can edit out a few frames without impacting the quality of the TL sequence.

In addition to traditional libraries keep in mind that there are companies like Revostock who represent many musical artists from a wide range of musical genres for pretty affordable rates. From my POV they allow a producer to target a musical style better than some of the libraries. Plus I like the pay as you play concept.

You could convert your PowerPoints to a Flash-based video using software from Articulate or others who mainly service the e-Learning world. There are lots of solutions that allow you to use video clips. The output file sizes are relatively small and they will play through the browser.

Yeah I’ve seen it in the past when we’ve been involved with broadcast documentary and feature work, but it’s usually specifically for the project. We’ve been doing corporate work for over 20 years and for some very recognizable corporations, but no one has asked for this before on corporate work that primarily has an in-house audience. Unfortunately they aren’t at all flexible and just want CYA insurance if we use footage music or something that we didn’t have appropriate insurance.

It’s the bees knees for editing and I’ve used a lot of other systems that don’t come close. But like anything you love, there are a few niggles here and there. If Apple provided a visual clue showing which pane was active it’d be a godsend when I’m up editing in the middle of the night and trying to stay focused… So if I had to choose one thing, I’d go with that. I know some of you might have a pinch point that you’d wave the wand to change if you could. Share if you dare…

Come on, tell the truth — I bet youv’e had some i’s, o’s, J’s and l’s show up in your descriptions from time to time 🙂 It’s not a bug per se, just annoying and if the software genie gave me one wish for FCP, that’s what I’d change…

I saw a cool device for smaller camcorders called (I think) a Levelcam, that is a stabilizer handle for hand-held use and also on a tripod using a quick-release. It provides an ideal place to mount a wireless receiver secured with small bungees. I think that you can get it for under $50 at B&H or you can Google it to find the manufacturers home page. Mounting a wireless receiver is definitely a pain in the butt on smaller cameras. I’m going to pick one up myself ’cause this is always an issue with me — can’t tell you how many times I’ve been juggling, dangling, or trying to find a place to mount the receiver on the tripod…

You can probably find most of what you need for free at the National Archives motion picture library in Maryland. I’ve used it a few times. You may have to dig a little bit, but they have some amazing stuff.

Have you used the broadcast safe filter to achieve legal video and if so do you have a suggestion for the preset?
