    Thanks!

Media Tool is ultimately what I used, along with Media Mover. I think my problem was I used Media mover first, plus I still am reluctant to completely trust the Media Tool for some reason – I still wish there was a bit more logic to how Avid names it’s files for peace of mind.

Just a thought, but if you have b-roll, photos, etc related to the context of the letter, you could somehow overlay the imagery on the letter and maybe use write-on with it to give it some pizzaz.

Maybe do moves on the letter at funky angle and have a mini-movie/slideshow/storyboard thing going on along with the text?

  • Crap. Just saw this on Avid’s site:

    Important Notes:

Avid Media Composer Adrenaline, Avid Media Composer with Avid Mojo/Mojo SDI customers on the Mac. Avid Media Composer v3.0 on Avid Adrenaline, Avid Mojo and Avid Mojo SDI is not currently qualified with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard due to an issue between the Apple firewire driver in Apple OS X 10.5 and the Avid Adrenaline and Mojo drivers. This issue is not present with Apple OS X 10.4 Tiger and Avid is currently in the process of qualifying v3.0 on OS X 10.4 so that Avid Adrenaline and Avid Mojo customers can upgrade to v3.0. Customers will be notified when this qualification is complete.

No firewire support for Adrenaline box yet. That danged new firewire technology gets me every time! Yet on the “Qualified Apple Mac Workstations” pdf I just downloaded, there’s a big ol’ check mark in the Adrenaline column. Must still be referencing Tiger in that box – as I zoomed way in I could start making out asterisk’s in the other columns for Leopard.

  • Thanks everyone! It was a combo of offest and position (within the animator parameters, not transform).

I also should have just copy/pasted the preset from the text that worked from left to right rather than start with a whole new preset – I think that was messing me up a bit too.

Thank you, we actually talked to the tech guys thru our Apple rep and they basically told us it’s a “no-go.” – apparently there IS a different firmware, so we’re out of luck.

We were hoping to run our Avid Adrenaline off one drive with Tiger and Final cut on Leopard, but it looks like the only way this can be done is if you have a G5.

Oh well, we’ll have to wait until June now.

I didn’t notice any mention of Adrenaline. Does this mean our box that we added dnxhd board within the last year is going to be phased out and not supported? I’ve been waiting for them to qualify MC with Leopard too so i can make the PC to Mac switch. They said new Leopard support, but not in same sentence as Adrenaline. Anyone have any idea if my system is going to work? I’ve got this brand new quad-core just sitting here waiting to be driven.

Has anyone else tried this with success? Does it work with Adrenaline DNxHD Box?

Wow, you guys stay up late!

Thanks for the feedback, definitely going to take the two-drive path. QT seems to be one of the main factors, thanks for reminding me.

Figured Avid supported Leopard by now, but was wrong. Maybe the Avid can just sit quietly in the corner for now, or forever.

Since this our first Mac, it’s shipping with Leopard, we don’t have Tiger. Is it possible to buy it from Apple? Sounds like nothing works with it right now (Avid, FCP, Adobe…)

My boss is going to love this (Windows/Avid fan). Loves to rub it in when Mac doesn’t “just work.” Took me 3 years to convince him to buy a Mac/FCP system.

December 5, 2007 at 3:45 pm in reply to: P2 HD and Avid MC Adrenaline

    Paul,

First I want to preface that I am by no means an Avid workflow expert yet, and this new HD P2 thing is still a big learning curve for our shop. That said, we do what works for us.

    1. If we were to print to tape, we’d transcode our final sequence at the end. Our line of work doesn’t require us to do so, mostly compressing mpeg2’s for DVD, H.264’s etc for web-based delivery, so in that case we export Quicktime References and go from there. Therefore we ususally don’t need to transcode.

    2. The speed of transcoding is extremely slow in my opinion. I haven’t timed it out, maybe someone with more experience with that could chime in.

    3. We are able to edit DVCPro HD full-rez without transcoding, but to monitor out in HD with native DVCPro HD, we have to set our quality in timeline to draft-quality (this is with the DNxcel board). We’re not very happy about that. You can monitor out full quality if you transcode it first.

    4. Depending on the project, sometimes we do one numbered folder per card, sometimes on per project. We had a multi-camera project that lastest about 6 months, so we were very anal about it, naming the bins with card #’s and dates of shoot just to keep it organized, so we also used one numbered folder per card.

Hopefully this helps. We’re still in the process of figuring things out. P2 adds a lot of unforeseen twists and turns to the workflow (storage, archiving, mastering, etc). Overall we’re still pretty happy with it.

December 5, 2007 at 2:46 pm in reply to: Media Composer Client monitor issue

Grinner, did you ever resolve this monitor out issue without having to switch to half-quality? We have same issue with DVCProHD, bought a dang 42″ Panasonic plasma to view it on, and no dice. We have the DNxcel board as well.

I’m taking a few moments today to look through old posts to see if I can figure some things out.

    Thanks,

    Craig
