    this might answer ?

    from: https://www.dvinfo.net/canonxlh1/xlh1skinny.php

Although the standard definition 20x L IS lens and other Canon XL video lenses can be mounted on the XL H1, Canon recommends against this practice as those lenses will not properly resolve for HD. The earlier EF adapter for the Canon XL series is of course fully compatible with the XL H1, and most of the Canon EOS line of 35mm still photography lenses may be used for HD, the caveat being a 7.2x multiplication factor which renders most all EOS lenses to an extreme telephoto field of view. There are no initial plans to offer the XL H1 body and 20x HD lens separately; for now they may be purchased together only as a full kit. Canon states that it will not comment on future products, leaving the question of additional XL HD lens options up in the air.

There are no plans to offer a 1/2-inch lens adapter; standard broadcast HD video lenses may not be used on the XL H1 without serious modification anyway, as the grip handles on those lenses would physically interfere with the grip handle built into the XL H1 body. The P+S Technik Mini35 converter and a variety of other emerging 35mm image converter solutions are indeed as viable with the XL H1 as they are on the XL2 and previous XL-series camcorders.

[linkoping skrills] “my boot is 80gb with 11gb free”

That might be your problem. Drives can slow down when they are more than 80% full. Also check your preferences to see if you have the drives going to sleep. You might be waiting for them to wake every time you go to do something. This can drop frames in FCP as well.

I’ve used the migration utility and it works like a charm other than the occasional need to revalidate your registration number or update an app to make it compatible with new OS. I updated from 10.2 to 10.3 and didn’t lose a beat. Maybe in some way it’s not as clean but I’m not sure how. Be sure to back everything up before you begin and repair permissions before and after. FCP wanted me to reinsert the original disc after the update. MS Word needed me to reconnect certain templates with certain documents. Other than that everything looked the same other than the new features. Painless. You might want to do a quick search on the net for each of your applications to see if they are compatible and if any updates are needed or preferred. And clone your entire drive onto a backup drive just in case you want to begin again or if you want to boot into your old system to finish something that is not working in new system.

Could be the firewire cable rather than the case? Also you might want to open up the case and see if the internal plug has gotten loose from the drive.

These are just a few links. Do a search for adjustable height desks video editing. There are products at all price points. Each person is an individual and you have to consider the whole package. For example, I wear progressive lenses and prefer to look slightly down at my monitor, which is slanted, slighted up at me. The common ergo advice is to have the top of the monitor at the top of the head level. So for me, I keep the monitor at keyboard height, but for most, or anyone with computer glasses, the monitor should be higher than keyboard height. The feet should be flat on floor and the wrist held straight and supported. There are cheap solutions as well. The office depot type industry tables have manual height adjustments and you can add monitor arms that will fix the height of the monitors. And/or adjustable keyboard trays. With support products however don
