Thanks Eric. I don’t have a budget right now but will keep you on file for future needs. Is it worth sending you broken cables for repair or is it best to start from scratch? Also would you advise my learning how to do these repairs or is it best left to a pro? Our XLRs take quite a beating too.

If you want to be safe you can use multiple receivers of the signal to as many devices as you wish, say two cams and the recorder. But you’ll also need as many transmitters as people you need to wire. Several, at least, for a wedding.

If you use multiple transmitters, each on their own frequency, you’ll need multiple receivers. If so you’ll need a mixer. And I would test this at the location in case there is Interference. Always good to have a wired back up plan.

A good mixer (like the sound devices line) is much better for monitoring through headphones and better meters. This is assuming you can use an audio tech to do the monitoring – always a good idea. You could train an intern to do this if money is the most important consideration. If not, get a pro with their own gear including many wireless and wired kits and you’ll have one less thing to fret over. Getting sound right is the hardest part of production and often the thing you can’t fix in post.

If so what do you charge?

We use 7 mixpre-d’s under out smaller cams and the students have broken a couple of these cables. What do you charge?

If you can’t afford G3 wireless kits, then buy a wired lav of good quality. With audio the cheaper gear is pretty much a waste of money.

Remember this is per person.

If it has to be wireless … rent or hire a sound tech with their own gear. (actually a great idea regardless).

Not a lot of difference in quality. To me a waste of money to buy the other if you have either one.

on the 302:
Line-Level or Mic-Level (or somewhere in between)
The XLR Output Level can be attenuated anywhere from a Line level signal to low Mic level signal.

I’m pretty sure you can use the tape out with the right interconnect to go to your camera. I haven’t done that and if no one else answers call sound devices tech support. They give great support.

create a FINAL CUT EVENTS folder and FINAL CUT PROJECTS folder on the root level of the external drive.

Final cut will then recognize the ext drive and treat it the same as it treats these folders on your system drive or any other drive

What I did was hook up my laptop to the projector then I connected the headphone out of the laptop to 1/4 input on our mixer and from there xlr out to a powered speakers. worked great. loud and clear. as far as which powered speakers — lots of reviews. a lot depends on the size of the room and placement of speakers. I mounted them on speaker stands. If you only want to set up one, use the left channel.

I was kinda hoping for a modular system that could be individually configured and/or grow as needs change or your pocketbook would allow.

But how exactly do these specs fall short or force anything on the end user?
