Not that I know how but can’t you custom map your keyboard to do that?

I was afraid of that. Never had to do this before but we shot a musical performed live and the stage lights kept changing and not all video friendly. We can blade it up but I’m surprised that you can’t select a range and adjust audio or color what ever. Thanks.

Got it. Thanks. I’ll give Handbrake a shot. I’m not comfortable or uncomfortable with any compression software. I follow the tutorials and live with the results. HDV to SD was a huge hit in quality but the tutorial’s result (ken stone) were better than I got otherwise. Compressed videos on Vimeo look pretty decent to me so this should be fine.

Thanks. I have compressor already installed and I thought it would be the better option given its a pro app. But if Handbrake does it better, I’ll do that. After I read that one, Larry Jordan also mentions adding x.264 to compressor.

GETTING READY & THE EASY WAY

Secondly, you need x264 on your system! Download x264 (scroll down a bit, it’s not the first one on the list), open the DMG, and copy the x264Encoder.component file to Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ Be careful, though, not to copy this file to your user Library, which is located elsewhere at Macintosh HD/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/ otherwise it won’t work!

Now, if you are using Compressor, download this file, unzip, open it with Compressor, and drag&drop the presets into your Custom settings. Four presets, one of each standard frame rate – 29.97 & 23.976 (24p) per standard HD resolution – 720p & 1080p. Also included is a preset which should automatically set your output resolution and frame rate based on your source. Now you have them saved for the future and you can go ahead and use them!

Thanks Andy,

When I open one of the “compound clips” in a timeline I see one track of video, nothing connected and four tracks of audio. Never created a compound clip. If I open one of the regular icon clips in the timeline it looks the same as the other.

The original media is in a separate folder in the same folder as the library but I did choose the option to reference the media, not copy it. Restarting FC everything remained the same. The clips all play without relinking. But the triangle remains as does the compound clip icons.

For all important projects I am saving a copy of the original P2 files as either a FCP camera archive or a straight finder copy.

Well these files were just imported and not edited yet. Not sure how the clips could be missing (which was my first thought) since if I put the cursor over them, they play in the viewer. And when I put the cursor over them the icon shows the shot and you can skim through it. That’s why I wish I could get a dialog telling me what’s amiss.

I tried to create a project for it with the same name as the library and event but got an error message that that name was already taken. Hmm. The project had not yet been created. I did a finder level search for just in case I forgot I did it an saved it somewhere else. Nope.

This was actually a backup. I have these same files on another computer and there is no triangle and all looks identical. So maybe the library is corrupted somehow?
