Thanks Kevin! That did the trick for writing on the line, but unfortunately it doesn’t give me the crisp vector edges I was hoping for. And if I turn on the “continuously rasterize” option the layer becomes all distorted and After Effects starts to behave like I’m working in the most complex composition known to man. I can’t apply the stroke start/end directly to a pen-drawn vector line?

I’m actually in search of the same thing as Alexander. Filip, what are the next steps to take that vector shape and have it automatically draw on (or off) from the first point to the last? Alternatively, could one create their line with the pen tool and have that draw on/off automatically.

I’m confused by how difficult this seems to achieve in After Effects, when it’s such a simple procedure in Apple’s Motion program with the vector paint tool. Thanks.

Lloyd, thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed. Thank you.

That really doesn’t help Dave. Obviously I know of a way to accomplish what I need to do, but what I’m in search of here is a more efficient way to accomplish the same thing. Thanks though.

Thanks for the reply Dave. Yes, pre-composing a layer with the texture would do what I want, but that’s exactly what I want to avoid having to do. Every layer will have this texture applied, so I’m looking for a filter-based means of doing the same thing to all 30-60 layers; I’d have to pre-compose each layer individually to get the same effect. Again, the artwork is vector-based and I want to keep it that way, hence the desire to blend it with a raster-based texture in AE instead of Photoshop.

Thanks for the reply Mike. What you’re describing is what I WANT to have happen, but when I apply compound arithmatic to a 3D layer, the texture stays with the camera instead of the layer.

November 21, 2007 at 5:33 pm in reply to: CS3 Render Stuttering

I’m having a very similar problem. Rendered out some sequences at Lossless with Alpha and then placed them into a new timeline in a new project. The original renders play smoothly, but the newly created composition has a stutter issue; it’s like the framerates are different, even though everything is set to 23.98. The stutter is evident both in the RAM preview and the actual render, even though the Lossless videos placed in the sequence together play smoothly on their own. Thoughts?

I’ve been reading through these P2 forums trying to understand the best workflow from shooting to archiving uisng P2 in place of tape. This put it all in perspective for me. Thanks Luis!
