    Hey All,

    I’m totally new to this expression thing, so my apologies for asking what’s probably a very simple thing but I don’t even know where to put expressions in After Effects, let alone create them. I have an object navigating horizontally across the sky, and would like to have it smoothly and steadily bob up and down as it does so. Like I said, I don’t even know where to copy/paste expressions to, so please explain it to me like I’m five years old.

    Thanks so much.

    Reveal the position channel and Option-Click (Alt-click on PC) the stopwatch icon, the delete the text that is auto generated and replace it with this text:

    frequency=20;
    amplitude=30;
    value + [0,Math.sin(time*frequency)*amplitude]

    You can adjust the frequency and amplitude values to suit your need but make sure to leave the semicolon after the numbers.
