Video Copilot has a plugin called Twitch that I use all the time for this effect. Mr. Kramer even bundles it with some staticy/distortiony sound effects for the super lazy people like myself so I don’t even have to hunt for audio to tie it in.

So I’m imagining sitting in a car and looking into the rear view mirror. From the driver’s or passenger’s POV it’s quite an angle, so I’d think you could even be just outside of the car to fudge it a bit more and then you’d be shooting past the side of the truck in front of you. The rear view mirror from the back seat would be right on the truck in front of you, but I can’t think of a reason for that shot anyway. You could pretty much frame your shot any way you like and bend that mirror to your will, they’ll swivel all over the place.

I don’t know where you are but could you camo the truck with something similar to your terrain? You could probably by fabric from a craft store in any of the camo patterns that you see around. Or something greyish to make it look like the road. If you just catch the edge of the truck and it’s pretty out of focus anyway it might just work.

Although, since it came up, I would love to know the Premiere solution…

I am occasionally looking to do some speed effects and it would be great to have the option, but I’m not sure how to affect the audio.

    Alright, got it.

Searching around I found that I am looking for a “Tape Stop” effect. I downloaded the Vari-Fi VST plug-in for Pro Tools and it was exactly what I needed. (probably should have mentioned owning Pro Tools).

    Thanks anyway.

Ok, I need just a tiny hint as to what effect to use. I’m only familiar with the Time Warp and that doesn’t affect the audio track.

In this shot the distance is approximately 3000 px at the start and ends up at approx. 1700 px.

    The wiggle expression is “wiggle(1,10)”.

Foam! That’s the one I was trying to think of. Thanks.

I don’t have Particular though. I’m trying foam right now and it seams that this one doesn’t work with cameras either. It does have some perfect presets though, get’s me very close to what i want. I may just go with this as it’s perfect except for the 3D, but the athlete is 2D anyway so it may work just fine.

The only 3D droplet thingy in AE are probably the Particle systems, right? Probably go with CC Particle World if I need depth in the droplets.

Are you familiar with the wiggle expression? That works dynamite for this type of thing.

Just add it to the vertical position for the layer with the footage and you’re pretty much good to go. You can add a slider to it as well to help fit the jumps in with cuts or music like in the example video.

Mercalli looks really cool on their website, but I’m on a Mac. Their website only lists compatibility for PC.

It seems to have been fixed. I used Boris Optical Stabilizer all day yesterday. It’s a little buggy but if i adjust the settings exactly the same each time and save after every application then it works like a charm.
