    Hello,
Can anyone tell me what the effects are used in this video?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQucRyPWO1M

They’re pretty subtle effects, perhaps it’s a plugin?

    What I mean:
    – The rocking of the screen at 0:25 along with the discoloration.
    – The effect at 0:38 where you see Tupac’s face duplicated in several colors along the edges
    – At 0:40 the transition images, seems like a small clip distorted and put between the two ”scenes”, but how do you distort it like that?
    – At 0:54 the blueish tv effect
    – At 0:56 the effects around Tupac’s face, in this scene the person who made this definetly had to do some ”tracking” to outline the face and make the effects appear around it, was hoping this to be an effect.
    – At 1:00 the colored squares going through the screen(it’s only 1 second). THat looks really cool!

Well that was it, thank you VERY much to whoever can help out. THanks in advance!

It is basically a bunch of “bad TV” filter stuff. What programs do you have access to?

    Hi Nima,

[Nima Masood] “- At 1:00 the colored squares going through the screen(it’s only 1 second). THat looks really cool!”

It’s also really easy 🙂 All they are doing is using a shape (sort of an arrowhead/triangle/diamond kind of thing) as a mask to reveal a copy of the clip that has a different colour grade applied. Just after the shape appears in the bottom left corner, the main video cuts to B&W.

BTW, regarding the effect at 0:56, I don’t think any tracking was involved there. It’s such a short effect and the whole feel is so grungy and lo-fi that I imagine they just did a rough mask around Tupac to composite a “clean” copy of him over the background.

Ahh thank you for that! Do you have any more plugins like that, preferably with more effects in the pack? Thanks.

    @Gareth
I’m still not very good at using After Effects though so even a simple thing like that will take me ages, but thanks for the comment. I’ll try making that effect on my own now and see how it looks 🙂

Final Cut Pro’s magic bullet has that effect – called bad TV. Very easy to use and customise the colouration and degree of distortion.

When the job comes in I use this plugin Bad TVhttps://aescripts.com/bad-tv or Twitch at Videocopilot – https://www.videocopilot.net/products/twitch/

Video Copilot has a plugin called Twitch that I use all the time for this effect. Mr. Kramer even bundles it with some staticy/distortiony sound effects for the super lazy people like myself so I don’t even have to hunt for audio to tie it in.
