September 20, 2011 at 6:08 pm in reply to: 60fps in a 59.94 project – And its not looking like its slow – motionI was bringing the 60fps files into my 24p project by importing. I copied the QT’s off an external hard drive that was given to us by the production company, to one of my ISIS drives. I then opened my bin, right click for import.
I just went to TOOLS -> CONSOLE, typed in “IgnoreQTRate true” without the quotes and hit Enter. Then imported, and the video looks normal speed. Not slo-mo.
I also just tired importing a file in a 1080i/59.94 project, (I didn’t have the option for 60p) and then opened my 24p project and did the Open–>Bin and navigated to the 59.94 bin. Opened the footage, cut it into my timeline, and i could not remove the motion effect. There was a little green dot on the footage, that would play down & after I rendered it, it played down the same as before rendering, but I could not make that little green dot go away without rendering. No slo-mo.
I’m using Avid Symphony v. 5.0.3 – so maybe it IS too good for its own good.
And thanks for the links. I’ll go to that forum and post there too.
Just one more question that I had posted earlier … if they did in fact shoot in SLO-MO. 1 – Should the QT’s direct of their drive that they provided to me, should those QT’s play down in slow motion? because they do not. and 2 – Is having audio attached to the clip a clear indication that slow-motion wasn’t recoreded. Because I’m being told by other editor friends that slo-motion, when its recorded, is video only. Audio doesn’t get recored and all these Quick Times have audio.
Thanks again for all your time and help! 🙂

September 20, 2011 at 4:24 pm in reply to: 60fps in a 59.94 project – And its not looking like its slow – motionI am still very much in the beginning stages. The producer on set insists that the video was shot in slo-motion, but now that I’m looking at the video, I’m not so sure. And I havn’t talked to the actual people who shot the video.
If I watch the qt’s straight from the drive, they look normal speed. If they were shot in slo-mo, shouldn’t the QT’s appear slo-mo?
There is also sound attached to these files and I was under the impression that when shooting in slo-mo, audio isn’t recorded.
But in my avid, I started a 24p project. Imported the suppose’ed slo-mo clips into the project and they are playing in normal speed.
I have a feeling the producer on set may have taken “we’re shooting at a slower frame rate” to mean, we are shooting in slo-motion. Do you think this could be a possibilty? Or do you think I’m doing something wrong when bringing the 60fps footage into my 24p project using avid? Should I try FCP?
Thanks!

I guess I’m just going to have to slow it down in post. I just think making the footage look the way its suppose to before post is better/smoother than effecting the footage in AVID due to the stutter that sometimes happens when using TimeWarp.

Do the same rules apply?
Thanks

September 15, 2011 at 7:22 pm in reply to: 60fps in a 59.94 project – And its not looking like its slow – motionRight, that’s what I figured because the numbers are, essentially the same, like you said.
However, the people I’m working for, who were on the shoot, were under the impression that if they shot 60fps, when we got the footage in, the footage would look slo-mo.
Would this be the case if they shot 60fps and we were working in a 30i SD project?
Also, in 59.94, how would they have had to of shoot this in order to get the slow motion look they were looking for?
Thanks again!

March 24, 2010 at 9:11 pm in reply to: 23.98 footage but need to work in a 30i projectOk so I did what you all said, I see all the footage and I can edit.
Heres my next question, when I go to output at the completion of my project (I need to deliver NTSC 29.97) will I run into issues having different frame rates?
Because right now, just as alittle test … as if I was going to output today … when I open up my digital cut tool and simulate outputting, AVID is prompting me to transcode.
What do I do now?
Should I transcode? If I don’t will there be dropped frames? Also, will placing effects in my 30i project when using the source from my 720p project cause any problems.
I’ve never worked with mixed frame rates and this is all very new to me.
Thanks so much!

Please give the complete specifications include PAR and codec for your sequence. Also please give the specifications you have set in easy setup when you imported the graphics file.
Okay, I’m not sure what PAR is. How can I find this? The Codec for my sequence is DV/DVCPRO – NTSC
In easy setup, I have Format: (all formats) Rate: (all rates) Use: DV-NTSC
Thanks

I’m def. a novice FCP user … what do you mean by Progressive sequence? How do I make it progressive and what is it exactly.
I also didn’t understand this part of your answer either …
Proress, and the time base depending of the stuff.I’m sorry I don’t get it. Thanks so much for your help!

July 21, 2009 at 2:56 am in reply to: New to FCP_ Q about using photoshop in FCP re: image size & outputtingOk, I think I may be getting closer. May! & all thanks to you.
Heres alittle more info about my sequence. All my source footage came as quicktimes 720×480. This footage as anamorphic. So in my browser window, I checked off Anamorphic for every single clip. (maybe this is where i made my first mistake? I should have just set the sequence to be anamorphic?)
Secondly, I got a DVD that I had to put through MPEG streamclip. Perhaps my 2nd mistake. I made that into a 720×480 quicktime.
But, I did what you said and Clicked on the Motion tab. The scale is at 75, the distort at 0. if I change it to 100(scale) and 12.5(distort) the picture takes up the whole screen. At this point, I can’t tell if it looks too wide or what not. Everything looks good.
Thanks for the link, im going to take a look at it now.
And again, thanks for all your help! Its much appreciated!
