    Hi Juan,
Just curious when this card is expected to start shipping?

Also, I would like to purchase a 570 or 580 asap can you point me to where best to buy one – i am located in NYC but would order online if it was better priced? I plan to update to Lion as soon as I can get the card.

Just to clarify I do not have an expansion chassis and would put the card in my 12-core replacing the 470 i currently have which does not have enough RAM to render out 5K. I want to be sure to avoid buying a card that will have too much of a power drain so is that just the 590?

If you or anyone reading this can link me to a resource to purchase the most powerful card possible right now for MacPro that would be great.
    Best
    Colin

Where best to purchase the correct 570 or 580 card for a MacPro Lion 12-core system online or locally in NY?

Thank you guys for the fast responses!

Can you possibly point me in the direction to one of these 570 or 580 cards on ebay or whatever online retailer has it – I would also just buy from a store here in NYC if possible?! Just to verify – this is the most powerful card i can get at this time for non-cubix setup.

I am also still curious as to whether the quadro 4000 will in fact be enough to render 5k shots – i would hate to waste studio friend time..one thing to point out is they are on a macPro 3,1 with much less CPU than my 12-core – does this matter in terms of rendering 5K or just playback? As long as it will render out that is all that matters.

    thank you

Quick question about the 4000 and 570.

I dont have a cubix but a 12 core with the 120/470 combo.

I have run into my first limitation while trying to render out 5K Epic i get a GPU error – I am told by the BMD team that I would need at least a quadro 4000 with 2GB vram as opposed to the 1280MB my 470 card has. I am grading off r3d obviously but need to render back at full resolution (a mix of 3k & 5k) at ProRes444 or HQ.

I can possibly borrow a friends 4000 tomorrow but first i want to be sure that it will be able to render out 5k ProRes files so as not to waste his time or mine. If it does that is great, BUT my other thinking here is to get a 570 card off ebay or locally here in NY if possible and upgrade my system to Lion in order to use the new drivers from nvidia on the pc version of the 570. I want to be sure I can use the cables my current 470 came with in order to connect properly to my 12-core. Most importantly I want to buy the ‘best / beefiest’ card I can right now for my 12-core non-cubix setup. Please advise.

Is this card below correct even, and if there is a higher / better card someone can recommend please advise as I am willing to upgrade my system to Lion to get a beefy card in there (i.e. 580)? Also, should i swap my 120 for something else or am i fine – i would need a small card like the 120 to fit in my box).

Yes Juan I understand that a Lion upgrade would be necessary. I was told the 580 had power issues and that the 570 was the highest i could go on my macPro without using an expansion chassis.I believe my 470 card is x2 6 pin connectors no? Just want o make sure of that, as well as the 4000 question about it being able to render 5k or not..

Curious to know if you used the mxf format with a beta version of resolve or used a ProResHQ transcode? Any workflow advice on Resolve with c300 material – i see there may also be some LUT’s available from there website?

Hey Kevin thank you for the reply!

What if I did want that control within this multi session project? Not in front of my computer at the moment so I forget, is that a remove from group function or what?

    Cheers
    Colin
