Has anyone used the relay recording mode on GH5? I use my GH5 to record long seminars and I had to record without cut. I thought the relay recording mode will automatically spill over the video to the next SD card when the first one gets full. In my case, recording stops when SD 1 is full and I have to press record button again to start recording to SD 2. Am I missing something? I record in AVCHD format. Thanks! God bless!

Thank you very much, Tom. Yes, it’s for analog NTSC.

I’m using Premiere CC 2015’s waveform monitor. This morning, someone told me that CC 2015’s waveform monitor is “digital.” He said if it shows 0% IRE, “analog” stations will read that as 7.5% IRE. So if it shows 0% IRE in Premiere 2015’s waveform, that is perfectly ok for analog NTSC broadcast. Is that correct?

Chris, I tried your preset, and it was incredible! Everything is now within the NTSC safe level squares in my vectorscope with very little effect on the quality of the picture. Incredibly helpful presets! Thank you very much! God bless!

Thanks Chris! Is this for standard definition?

Oh my goodness. I didn’t know of those things until now. Thank you very much.

The reason I asked the mixer operator for an XLR cable was because it’s “balanced” and therefore less “noisy” (i think). The mixer was about 15 meters away from me so I thought a long unbalanced cable (with 6.5mm plug) would introduce noise.

Thank you very much Brian. That’s very helpful.

This is a bit off topic. Weeks ago, I’d like to record audio from a mixer with a Zoom H6 and then loop out to my laptop for webstreaming.

The technician manning the mixer gave me an XLR cable from their mixer which I then connected to my Zoom H6’s XLR input. It was screaming loud. I turned down the volume knob to zero on my H6 and it was still loud. Then a few days later, someone advised me not to ask for a “line-out” nor “record-out” from the mixer; always ask for either auxillary-out or monitor-out. Is this correct? What are your thoughts on this?

    Thank you! God bless!

Our church’s mixer has a male audio-out. We are going to use a BOYA BY-WM6 UHF transmitter which has both a line-in and mic-in. Which input will I use?

Can we use this female XLR-to3.5mm cable to connect the mixer’s male XLR output to the transmitter’s 3.5mm input?

We might also have access to a Saramonic UWMIC10 but there’s only mic-in on the transmitter; no line-in. Is that ok?

    Thanks! God bless!

I ended up buying a GH5. I think the higher bit rate will get me through most of the jobs. And I love the slow motion. For those clients who really need to see a “big camera,” that type of project will just have to wait until I have funds to buy a C200 (In reality, I think the GH5 is enough for that, if they only allow me to use it). I think the C200’s ability to shoot raw will be very useful.

The only serious problem I have now with the GH5 is the menus. Very confusing. I have to search the internet every time I look for something. In the Canon Cinema cameras, almost every function has a dedicated button. Better for run and gun situations.

  • Thanks everyone for your help! This might be a little off-topic, but which one affects dynamic range: color depth or color sub-sampling? How about bit rate, does it have more effect on dynamic range than the previous two I mentioned above?

  • Thanks Gary. I am now confident with the a7s ii. I am originally leaning towards the GH5 because i can also use it for green screen work (10 bit 4:2:2). But to my eyes, the a7s ii looks more filmic and its low light capability is unmatched. I am putting the C100 at the bottom of my list (which used to be first) because while it offers me the comfort and convenience of handling like a video camera, and not to mention that most clients here want to see me with a “big” camera, both GH5 and a7s ii will beat it in bitrate, resolution, and many other features.
