    Thanks Steve !

About the distribution amp, is this the correct one to use:

We need the recording to be good enough for uploading to Youtube. 1080p recording is good enough for us. I want it to look like any other videos that we shoot and record in-camera, edited, and then uploaded to Youtube.

I saw your setup and it looks cool. Do you have the automix engaged on your digital mixer?

Thank you, Steve! This is very informative.

In your option 2, how do you connect the camera to both Atem and vMix? Do you use a splitter to send each camera signal source to both Atem and vmix? Or does the Atem have a loop-out for each camera?

Also, I have a Magewell HDMI to USB3.0 capture device. What’s the difference between that and a capture card that inserts directly to the motherboard’s PCIexpress slot? Is video captured in the same format and quality?

I think I will have to rely more on zebras and false-color. Do most people now use false-color than waveform monitors on set? It’s faster. Now I’m using waveform only in post-production because I can isolate anything by masking so that only my chosen area appears in the waveform.

Thank you, Andy. I saw someone on Youtube showing where every part of the subject falls on the waveform. He’s saying that it’s easy to see on the waveform monitor. I wrote a comment asking him how he does it but never received an answer. So I thought that maybe he’s just eyeballing and making estimated guesses.

Thanks Richard. Now I have more confidence to tell the audio guy that I’m right and he’s wrong 🙂

For uniformity between the shots, I’ll use the same method for both. I’ll balance them in camera (with my GH5) using the back side of the chart (neutral gray). Hmmm…. actually, if the white balance on one of the shots with artificial light looks a bit off, that may already be an indication of poor CRI. What do you think? Is this correct?

Thanks Eric! Is this related to why the output jack on my receiver is weaker than the HP jack? I was tempted to just use the HP jack to connect to my mixer because it’s louder but I’m not sure if it’s good practice.

    Thanks Richard!

I plugged the mic directly to my Zoom H5. No audio signal at all. Then I plugged it to my GH5 and was only able to record left channel. I spoke to the mic for a few seconds then stopped talking so I can record the noise.

I brought it to Premiere Pro and used the loudness meter. I adjusted the overall volume level so that my voice would be in the “sweet spot.” When I stopped talking, you can see the loudness level of the noise (in red circle). I have no other mic on hand to compare it to except for another cheap one (Boya).

I think it’s noisy because the level is higher (but by just a bit) than the cheap Boya which is supposed to be noisy due to it’s cheap price.
