    Hello Pat,
I shoot with 60D and haven’t used this filter either, I have it disabled at the moment. I am sure sharpness will be lost, but how much remains to be seen. What lens are you using? By the way go to M on your dial then click MENU on the back. Then click orange ICON at top of screen. Go down to 2. IMAGE. Then click right side of set control to cycle to 2. This is HIGH ISO SPEED NOISE REDUCTION. You have several settings, but maybe one will be to your liking as far as not alot of sharpness lost.

  • Hello Bob,
I use Canon 60D plus Sigma 2.8 70-200 for most of my filming (very good setup I might add). I also have a colleague that uses D7000. I am not sure about Vegas, but I am hearing that Adobe Premiere handles the h.264 without transcoding. Shane Hurlbut editor said the following.

“As of right now my favorite and most used NLE is definitely Adobe Premiere CS5…and if you shoot on DSLRs or deal with h.264 footage, it should be yours too. The simple fact of cutting without transcoding h.264 footage in Premiere by itself is miraculous.

I do like Sony Vegas Pro 10 though. It is the professional big brother of the software that you are going to use.

If you want some tips go to my link below, it is very helpful.

Yep, very encouraging. Pretty much the direction I thought they were headed. Lots of info in there that was new to me, glad I checked it out.

Pro means many different things to many people. I can assure you a professional baseball player doesn’t put a minor league player in his level of “pro”. Its definitely more of a minor league software at the moment. Some very smart people on these forums have legitimate complaints against Apple. If I was Apple, I would get on the ball with addressing the high priority ones ASAP.

You can still buy new copies of Final Cut Studio an such from retailers like Amazon. They are continuing to get new copies as well. If you need the advanced features that defines it as ‘pro’ for you, then keep using studio. If you can use what it offers then try out X. Although even I must say it doesn’t offer much in the arena of editing that Imovie can’t do LOL.

I think most ‘pros’ here would rather have had final cut express with a different intro screen than what X is. I have had another day to mess around with X and I have to agree with the clunky remarks.

  • I work with AE CS5. I avoid editing like the plague. I treat it like an evil little brother, you don’t like him but you have to play with him every now and again :). Compositing has always been my passion. I bought FCPX and Motion 5 with hopes to migrate completely to my Mac. I have high hopes for Motion, not so much for FCPX. It does what I need it to do, which is more documentary type stuff. Formats aren’t an issue for us as we use HDSLR for footage.

I have yet to figure out how to sync the audio from separate recorder. Its supposed to do this automatically the way I understood it. I am sure some input is required anyway.

I really like Sony Vegas Pro 10 and would have bought it instead of FCP if it was on mac. In my opinion its amazingly powerful for a software that I never really considered ‘pro’. The sound controls are really nice.

  • I don’t know his ultimate goals. I think we would be foolish at best to try and guess what they are. They do seem doomed at this point I must admit. We shall see. I guess its off to Avid for most.

  • Ya the one under help.

I gotcha :). I do agree 100 percent that it does not look professional, or feel pro like FCP7. It was actually first thing I said when i installed it, man this looks like Imovie.

None taken. I didn’t have to discuss anything with my friend. It was casual conversation about the complaints being lodged against FCPX. You just made my point that I posted earlier. Why would you struggle with an interface that you understood. I wouldn’t take a software package in front of a client that I had used for 2 days either.

I should have been more specific. Tapeless digital. I do concur though, that is a major problem if they do not import Red footage.

I bought it and it works with my HDSLR workflow. I do want multi cam to be added though.

Can you not use quicktime wrapper to pro res?

I composite more than I edit and I thank you for enlightening me.
