    I`m looking for a small HD camera for documentary use.
    Recently I have gained interest for DSLR`s.
    I`m thinking about buying the Canon EOS 600D. After reading about it, I have found out that it records HD footage as MOV (Video: H.264).

    Being a novice to HD production, I`m new to the different formats.

    So my question (or two questions) is:
    Is this format the same as AVCHD? I know that AVCHD is MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.
    Not sure about the “MOV” part.

    And – can you import it into Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10?

    MOV = Quick Time.
    Not the same as AVCHD.
    And it can be imported into Vegas Movie Studio

    Hello Bob,
    I use Canon 60D plus Sigma 2.8 70-200 for most of my filming (very good setup I might add). I also have a colleague that uses D7000. I am not sure about Vegas, but I am hearing that Adobe Premiere handles the h.264 without transcoding. Shane Hurlbut editor said the following.

    “As of right now my favorite and most used NLE is definitely Adobe Premiere CS5…and if you shoot on DSLRs or deal with h.264 footage, it should be yours too. The simple fact of cutting without transcoding h.264 footage in Premiere by itself is miraculous.

    I do like Sony Vegas Pro 10 though. It is the professional big brother of the software that you are going to use.

    If you want some tips go to my link below, it is very helpful.
