  • I’m going crasy!LOL!
Here is the position of the flame of the exhaust just before setting the optical flare’s option to “Track lights”.

After setting optical flare to track light the flare goes down near the right border of the image, little orange point above “active camera”….

I followed your instructions to the letter. We agree that the presence of a camera doesn’t affect the method in any way; the exhaust is an optical flare with a liquify effect. I use a paralell light

  • Ok; Got it and of course I was missing the whole point. I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have done so.
    Thx

  • Good morning Graham

Thanks for the explanation, but I think I really don’t get it right ; here are my settings; obviously when I move the ship along its path ( I don’t move the camera) the flare doesn’t follow. Do I have to use after setting the element NULL with the Utilities option, to go and set up the GROUP Utilities too?? I’m really lost with those different set up and the tutorials I watched don’t make it clear either….
    Thanks for your explanations.

  • Hi Graham,
Thanks for your suggestions; actually I have watched some of your tutorials and the Saturn one in particular.

Yes I have used VC-Orb for the planet. I just try to have my work organised and eventually be able to re-use a previous work that’s why I have separated in 4 comps, the final work, the planet, the ring and the stars. I use Orb for the planet and the stars.

My problem here is that I don’t understand why the back of the rings are visible through the planet and the lower part of the planet is visible through the front of the first ring. Is it because under AE we’re not really in 3D but in 2.5?

Some guy shows in a long post how he succeeds to create a Z dimension in AE; If I remember well in a project using Particular and Form. But he doesn’t give full explanation of how he does it, it’s a truncated tutorial spoken at the speed of light!lol! I’m not too bad with English but there I’m immediately lost and also Particular is not obvious for an amateur like myself.

There is a very short clip on YouTube showing the result I want to achieve with the iced asteroids rings around Saturn, the guy who did it announced a tutorial and never did it. It’s a pity.

I’ll recheck Andrew’s tutorial you’re mentioning, I might even have downloaded for an eventual use.

    Thanks
    Claude

That’s exactly my problem, the dancers move around so the background is randomly visible or not! And I don’t have a picture of the monument , kind of temple with columns…Unles perhaps I create the whole temple in photoshop by filling the part I don’t see???
Here’s an image from the clip. i want to remove the stairs and the column behind:

“2001’s” special effects team was supervised by Kubrick himself, and included Con Pederson, Wally Veevers, and Douglas Trumbull,(see here this interesting paper :https://www.palantir.net/2001/meanings/dfx.html

Michael If I have read carefully all that Adobe has declared about win10 all the prior versions to version cc2015 will encounter problems with win10.
As far as I’m concerned I have set up a dual boot on my pc and loaded cc2014 on win 7 ultimate and cc2015 on win10 and for the moment use only the 2014 version not to have problems in my project.
There are different websites explaining how to install a dual boot one has only the obligation to install first win7 or earlier version, if the win 7 is an upgrade from an earlier version of the OS you have to install the first version you got and go through the different following upgrades you bought before reaching the final step to install win10 on the second partition. It can take a lot of time as the download of the different updates are very long due the very stupid way Microsoft deals with that for all the versions prior to win10. I think that with win10 at last they use the possibility of sharing resources with their clients just as Blizzard has been doing for years! It took me 15 hours to have all the security updates of win7 downloaded and set up although I’m using a fiber optic connexion at home. It took a whole night.

  • Hi Hannah here is a link with different sublinks which could help you. I cant find the one Andrex Kramer did where he gives an example.
