November 24, 2016 at 1:19 am in reply to: All in one folder? What’s wrong with that? Is it bad practice? If so why? When I have a stand alone project, I just use a library for it. Then everything for the project is contained in the project, the project can be moved elsewhere and no relinking is required if needed later. I think this works for projects that don’t have a huge number of video files and fit easily on one hard drive. This requires less organization, but for more sophisticated projects it is common the keep the video files elsewhere and then the libraries can be very compact. For a season worth of sports, I make one library and it holds various projects for different games. Then it is easy to make a season highlight within that project, because all of the video is there.

I had a similar feeling when I was editing some voice over on an old project with 10.3. It just seemed easier and cleaner.

November 20, 2016 at 6:08 am in reply to: iMac 27″ i5 with M395x GPU FCP 10.3 (Where To Put Files)?I found that Time Machine interfered with FCPX editing, at least in the past because it would be backing up when I needed full speed in rendering or compressing or other intensive computation. So I use SuperDuper and back up when I am not editing. I put my media in the libraries and keep them on a fast external drive (Raid 0 ) for editing. I am just not careful enough to keep the media separate. I can always transfer the full library off to a slow cheap USB drive, when finished.

Great ideas. Going for Murch and Blink first.

Let’s see. You post on the FCPX forum, call it lame and that implies the users are lame and you ask how to fix a FCP7 problem, when FCP7 is 6 years obsolete. Come on Man!

I read through a lot of posts on Apple’s recent release of FCPX and the new laptops. Most of the negativity seems focused on the weak points of the new lap tops. Sounds like the choices Apple made don’t enhance their use for “professional” or heavy duty editing. The lack of useful ports, the dongles, the limit of 16 GB memory, short battery life all seem to work against editors. Portable and requiring a lot of dongles just seems the wrong approach. I hear you can still special order the 2016 mbp.
For me, I am hoping they make a new iMac that can do the job on a desk top.

The audio on this video is atrocious and makes it useless and unwatchable. Not professional.

That video is just plain bizarre. OK, I will stay away from the Creative Cloud for a little longer.

At least FCPX lives on. No new iMacs, not new Mac Pro and the touch strip did look awkward instead of going all the way to a touch screen.
Is the 15 in MacBook Pro really what you want to edit 4k?
