I’m not 100 percent sure, but I’ve dealt with 26 pin for awhile and never ran into any issues. My thought is you should check out something like the “Phatcat” system and see if they mention anything about pin configuration to use different cables with their system. If it is an issue you might find some pin assignment info from them, but assuming you don’t have a crossover cable, it should be pin 1 to pin 1 for every pin?

Hi Roger and Sarah, I spent a few years at PBS, and off the top of my head, I have some suggestions. I think if memory serves, many of the art/sewing programs currently on PBS came from some of the networks like SCTV out of South Carolina or IPTV Iowa Public Television. If you catch some of those shows there is usually a slate at the end with the station or network of origin. If you have digital, you may be able to find the “Create” PBS network which shows nothing but those kind of shows. I am sure they can always use another especially if it’s already “in the can”
Best of Luck…

The 100’s would be a good choice if you were doing field work, or didn’t want to be bothered with or couldn’t logistically replace tapes every hour. You can get anywhere from 4 to 8 hours of HD depending on size. I do agree that they are an odd choice for a studio setup though . Have you thought of an HD multi-channel recorder? I think Grass Valley makes one? You can probably get something like that for the cost of four or five 100’s

December 24, 2008 at 1:35 am in reply to: Hopping mad: cable co’s putting PEG in ghetto spotsI came across your topic and was compelled to add my thoughts to the discussion. My background is similar to Mick’s as are my experiences with PEG. Last year after the state of Indiana for whatever reason decided the Comcast was no longer required to pay for a PEG, “poof” it went. I live in Northwest Indiana near Chicago, Comcast offered the channel(s) to anyone willing to take over and be able to program it. There have been a couple of educational Institutions interested, but so far nothing. It’s really sad, as when AT&T ran things before the Comcast Juggernaut took over, they actually produced an evening newscast and lots of coverage of local sports and other events…. Mark; well said, Public Access should be the “line in the sand” for people wanting information on their terms and not having one conglomerate organization tell them what the news is! Instead they are too busy with American Idol, or these days, trying to find ways to pay their bills and keep their homes, to worry about fighting for something like their local PEG!

I don’t know if you read my reply on DVinfo yet, but I want to add to that here. The other option you have is to contact Chandos Mahon at the Broadcast store and ask him about his Cambox they designed for the 250u’s. I’m thinking about purchasing those as opposed to the Jvc studio adapter as I like the flexibility they give you to run on tripod or handheld.

That sounds like a fun project, is it steam or diesel? Here’s what I can tell you about the 2.4 GHz systems. They ONLY work well for what you are doing if you can meet all of the following circumstances; 1) You are not going to be using it to record or switch the camera. 2) You have a clear line of sight between the transmitter/receiver. 3) The transmitter and receiver will be fixed and not moving around.
There are some systems available for security cameras from say security cameras direct similar to what you are using, they also have some systems that have a higher power output from the transmitter which may help with a better picture.
Here’s my overall advice;
Go with the best 2.4 or 5.8 GHz system you can afford. Remember, the more power the better. Since the higher power units will rely on electricity, something you may not have on a moving train, you can rig up and adapter made up from large 9 or 12 volt batteries (or battery belts) that can run these for hours.

I have some suggestions, but they ain’t cheap! There are a couple of systems on E-bay that may be worth checking out. There is also something like the Trango system (check Markertek or B&H, they both sell a couple of systems) Basically without spending like $10,000 plus, you’ll not get great results…
Wish I had better news for you,
Chuck

Terry and the Texas Media Systems crew are the best, call him first, trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

I don’t know about Buy Back but they did have some sort of Loyalty Program you may want to look into. My idea would be to check E-bay for 250’s. Most of the sellers are the high-end companies you speak of.
P.S. I love my 250, and am working on getting a second one!

I used mine once and sent it back. I was using a VX1000 with Delvcam on the hotshoe. No matter what I did it kept flipping over. Had the same problem with an XL-2 without the monitor. I didn’t dare try any of the more expensive cameras. I use a fig rig and I LOVE IT SO MUCH… I would never work without it. If I ever was going to get something else, I would go with the Glidecam. Catch one on E-bay for a little more than you would pay for the Flycam.
