Thanks for your input guys. I think I will be using a hybrid solution of both of your ideas. Only problem is this is a “vocational school” TV. studio. I will not know if their board is configured to allow for mix-minus to the studio, or if they have an RTS Comm. system that supports IFB.

Finally getting the tour this afternoon, so that should give me more to go on.

What card is installed to down convert? Are you sure you have one? You may have to get a down conversion box from AJA or Blackmagic to make this work…That’s how I do it.

I actually avoided that approach, I have tried that in the past with other switchers, and have never been happy with the keyer. My current idea is to use a Blackmagic card with dual outputs (key and fill) into the 450. The main problem being that it takes up 2 valuable spigots on the switcher, so I have to invest in an extra input card for around $2k.

I actually ran into a similar issue with a streaming machine using Wirecast having conflicts with Visual Basic. I uninstalled literally EVERYTHING but the streaming program and now it works. It kind of stinks not being able to use this machine for anything but streaming, but it’s rock solid now…

I think I will do a fresh install when I am ready to try 10, and make my computer guy sit with me and see if we can’t make things more stable. Thanks for all the advice guy, I really hope for Sony’s sake 10 works better than 9.

Can you elaborate on the connections and software you are using? I had a similar issue, so I’m curious to what your approach is?

According to your response to a previous post, your suggestion is to re-install Windows 7 and NEVER run Windows Update? That sounds like a very good solution, although realistically with so much hardware and 64 bit issues, I would have trouble with that. Any chance you or someone else has narrowed done which updates may be responsible? Can I selectively just update the drives on my peripherals and leave the Windows updates alone?

I am about to give 10 a try, so are you suggesting a clean install before I give it a shot?

Also one last question, do you think this is an i7 issue? I love the processor, but it seems like everyone that has this issue has an i7 processor?

    Thanks, Chuck

It’s crap Dan, just got off the phone with Sony Support asking if 10 worked any better. I told them how I have submitted a thousand plus crash reports, spent hours with technical support and have NEVER gotten the program to work for more than a few minutes on 2 DIFFERENT MACHINES. I finally gave up and pulled the trigger to buy Premiere 5 and a Quadro card. I really miss the Sony workflow, but you can only loose so much time to crashes before it gets counterproductive.

  • I think the general consensus is that 3G and 4G wireless are just to unreliable to maintain a steady steam. There has been some experimenting using multiple 3G cards sharing the workload with boxes such as the streambox, but the prices for such technology is still quite high.

Wireless in general seems to be a less than an ideal solution but with developments such as WiMax, that may change in the near future.

My guess would be it’s something as simple as a SATA cable that fell out during transit. If it doesn’t void the warranty I would open it up and check for a loose wire. If you don’t feel comfortable, a local computer store would probably look at it for $25 and tell you if there are two drives in there or not, and what’s wrong with it.

Hey Joe, here is probably your CHEAPEST wireless option. You can get a set of Eartec transceiver units (TD900) and their RTS adapter box. That will give you a wireless link into your Clear-com, and then you can get as many transceivers you want at that point. I think the wireless Telex stuff runs about $2k a box, and that’s after you buy the $4k base station.

I have both systems, and have been meaning to get the clear-com adapter from Eartec (it’s about $500)
