Certainly those of us looking for a “professional” Blu-Ray recorder with HD-SDI know we are going to be spending more than $200. But that Roland/JVC solution is what $5500? And those JVC recorders have some serious limitations. I think someone should be able to build something in the middle. The Ki Pro does a little of everything, has a small footprint, and is only $3500. I’m almost certain we will see a solution at NAB in the $2000 – $2500 range.(Fingers Crossed)

Livestream is a great (albeit expensive) service. A good complimentary software that I have been using with it is Wirecast (There is a good forum for it here on the Cow). You can use it on your host computer for streaming, graphics, and roll-ins. It also is a little pricey at $500, but well worth it.

Now for your bigger issue. Forget wireless, not going to happen, and you don’t need it. There is no reason why with proper camera placement, long fire wire cables (and maybe boosters) you might be able to pull off a two or three camera stream. If the distances are too great, you may consider using coax, switching on an inexpensive switcher, then use a box to convert the switcher outputs to a fire wire signal for the computer.

That’s the good and the bad news, I explored streaming racing for a while, we worked through the technology hurdles, it was the money aspect that killed the project.

The other option if you are needing to go over 300′ and are thinking of going the fiber route is the LiGHTBoX from Multidyne.

Neither one is exactly a cheap alternative, but they are certainly cheaper and more functional.

There are 2 options for you Mark, did you know that JVC came out with a “sled” for handheld use?

Here is the cheaper solution that I use, I picked up these “local” camera controls, and extended them using 250′ PS2 cables lashed to ENG cables. You can find them from security camera suppliers, and at the very least you can control iris and white balance functions. The only thing missing is a tally light.

Not a bad idea Mark, I should find out if that’s something that they can do at the booth. I’ve been bugging them for years to come up with an adapter so that you can use the camera without the sled and still access the camera control/tally functions, and now we are all wanting for a Blu-Ray recorder with HD/SDI inputs and their 1500 is the closest thing, so I will be chatting with them quite a bit.

I’ve been asking for the same thing for a while now. I was hoping that JVC would get it together and upgrade the 1200 & 1500 so you’re not spending over $5500k for that kit. I’m also betting we’ll see SOMETHING at NAB that fits the bill.

I actually missed my window for a simple fix of this issue. JVC closed their local repair shop, and I don’t want to ship it across the country and back if I don’t have to. Honestly I gave the thing a good cleaning and hit the fan vent area on the bottom with lots of air and blast of contact cleaner, and I think it went away.

I have a laundry list of questions for JVC when I go to NAB, if I get an answer, I will let you know.

I’ve actually had this same issue after upgrading to “click-crash” 10 as I refer to it. The error I get is that playback “is not available” this usually happens after a render, and requires a reboot. Checked all of the playback option John mentions and nothing…I’ve been using Vegas for many years now, but after the train wrecks of “click-crash” 9.0 and 10.0, I am seriously considering jumping ship to Premiere…

I just wanted to add that I use my Ki Pro with the Panasonic 2600 monitor. (Larger version of yours) and never had any issues like that. I love the monitor and they are perfect match for each other, so its definitely your still camera that’s not playing nice…sorry 🙁

I am very much in agreement Richard. Through my testing, I have found “Mac Drive” ($50) to be the best program for our problem. I think it is slightly faster than “Mac Disk” but the issue is still there. Let me know if you come up with a solution, as there are many of us in the same boat.
