Does Vegas 10 actually work?
Just to pick up where Dan’s post left off. I am a long time Vegas user, built a new 64 bit system just for version 9 and over a thousand crash reports and hours upon hours working with tech support later, I gave up and switched to Premiere and got a Quadro card. As stable and fast as Premiere is, I really miss the Vegas workflow. Just curious if any of the many people that had all of the problems like Dan and I had with version 9 have tried 10, and if it is less “buggy” than 9 was?

Yes I have had problems when I initially installed Vegas 9. I posted the way I fixed it and what the cause was. PM me if you’re interested.

According to your response to a previous post, your suggestion is to re-install Windows 7 and NEVER run Windows Update? That sounds like a very good solution, although realistically with so much hardware and 64 bit issues, I would have trouble with that. Any chance you or someone else has narrowed done which updates may be responsible? Can I selectively just update the drives on my peripherals and leave the Windows updates alone?
I am about to give 10 a try, so are you suggesting a clean install before I give it a shot?
Also one last question, do you think this is an i7 issue? I love the processor, but it seems like everyone that has this issue has an i7 processor?

I know of an editing program that won’t work because the computer has Internet Explorer 9. Once I.E. was removed/disabled, the program worked fine.
Using the above idea, in RUN, msconfig it and disable start up programs and I.E.9, if you have it. Then, open Vegas and use it.
If this works, let others know in a post.

After my clean install of Windows 7 and installation of programs (i.e. virus, firewall, Photoshop, Vegas, etc…), I made an image of my C: drive. That way I could get back to ‘square 1’ in 20 minutes instead of hours. At this point you could ‘let a few updates’ in, keeping track of which ones, then test out Vegas, if Vegas fails, back up a step and skip that group of updates. You may be able to undo a specific update or use system restore to step backwards. Happy hunting.
No, I don’t think this is an i7 issue.
I have been running 10a for two weeks, it is rock solid.

I actually ran into a similar issue with a streaming machine using Wirecast having conflicts with Visual Basic. I uninstalled literally EVERYTHING but the streaming program and now it works. It kind of stinks not being able to use this machine for anything but streaming, but it’s rock solid now…
I think I will do a fresh install when I am ready to try 10, and make my computer guy sit with me and see if we can’t make things more stable. Thanks for all the advice guy, I really hope for Sony’s sake 10 works better than 9.
