    John ~
Thanks for suggestions. I think the last time I did any QT output was back with V6 and never had any problems. WMVs etc are fine it’s just this QT sync issue. I thought the same as you, use QT Pro. Problem is this clients IT dept have laid down specific encoding specs which I can set in the Vegas QT plug in but can’t set in the limited configs in QT Pro. Looks like I may have to use Sorenson. Spoils my Vegas workflow 🙁

June 10, 2008 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Insert editing and moving everything automatically

    Mil ~

I think what you are after is ripple moving every other clip on all and any other tracks to the right of your new inserted clip. If this is correct then next to the ‘auto ripple’ button on the top menu is a drop selection arrow. In this drop menu select the bottom option ‘All tracks, markers and regions’. Now if you drop a clip into any track everything on all tracks to the right of that inserted clip should move in unison to the right.

Or manual mode you can use your ‘Selection edit tool’ and draw a marquee box around all tracks and clips to the right of where you want your insert. Now you can drag the total selected area on all tracks to the right. Drop in your insert. Selection edit tool again and marquee select everything to the right of your insert and drag it all left.

Using the selection edit tool you can select a slab of tracks and clips and select to the end and hit ‘G’ and make a ‘group’ which will now move as a single block. Use ‘U’ to un-group. The help file explains all the group functions in detail if you want to use these.

June 10, 2008 at 2:18 pm in reply to: Can I change the default audio plug-ins?

Not in front of a V box at the moment but from memory go to the audio track header, click on the Track FX plugin button and then add the plugins you want. Next delete the ones you don’t want and then close out of the audio plugin dialogue box. Now right click on the audio track header and from the drop down menu select ‘Set Default Track Properties’. From memory every time you add new audio tracks they will come with your new plugins choice.

    DSE ~

No generally each camera is one clip of around 45 mins for most of the sport multicam switches I do so no big difficulty. Must admit I never thought to CC the clips in the project media bin first for multicam use. Always learning! Solves my problem nicely!

No, just suffering brain fade. Applied the CC in the media pool as you did, not the timeline, 1:40am here so serious brain fade time. I asked for a work-around solution and you gave me one so many thanks again.

Great news Adam! You got me going. The loss of CC seemed to limit multicamera to me. So why isn’t it working here? Rushed to another Vegas box, CCed a track on the timeline. As you say it disappears during the switch and but lo and behold its there when you revert to post switch full screen. Rushed back to first unit and tried same again. Lost CC after switch, what the….?? Went the un-install re-install path on the first system and what do you know, it’s working as you describe. Geez! you can’t take anything for granted can you. Many thanks mate! Only one odd thing left now. MXF markers save on one unit but not on the other… go figure, and yes the pref is ticked on each system.

June 9, 2008 at 1:38 pm in reply to: Magic Bullet Looks for Vegas is finally here

Don’t get this post! Unless there is something new? I have been running Magic Bullet Editors v2.00 which has Magic Bullet Looks Suite along with Deartifacter and Misfire for well close on two years now. Also running Red Giants Movielooks HD for Vegas. Great set of tools. v2.0 has dramatically improved rendering if used with a good GPU card

As I mentioned in my post it looks like back to Excalibur for me. Was just wondering if there was a work-around in v8 multicam.

June 9, 2008 at 10:24 am in reply to: Advice on programs to use with Vegas.

    Ron ~

A small chapter indeed! I find these following programs quick, powerful and on the whole easy to use and learn in a short timeframe. My kind of program!

Keeping it pretty short I would say Cayman’s Power CG is a traditional CG in TV terms. Creates any number of pages like TM Pro. You can prepare heaps of pages and graphics outside of Vegas yet access them as you want when on the time line. As I previously mentioned any client changes update in the time line once they are made and saved in Power CG. All the normally expected font attributes of size, color, shadow, gradient, justification, alignment, layers both graphic and text are available. See it at:

    https://www.caymangraphics.com/PowerCG_plus.html

Bluff Titler. A strange little beast of a program but a very quick and dirty way of doing 3D extruded text with key-frame able flying animation, e.g. flying through the centre of a letter or word, zoom through the ‘o’ in zoom etc. Text can have plain, metallic or textured finishes, flat or extruded, with or without lighting. Just beware that some fonts don’t work as well as others due to aliasing problems on edges. Heaps of preset anims which you can use or customise and re-save as your own. Heaps of export resolutions and can export as TGAs, 32 bit AVIs etc. It’s at:

    https://www.blufftitler.us/

Zaxwerks ProAnimator. Great program, love it, one of my favourites. Very fast to use and very powerful in the right hands. Way too many options to go into here but suffice to say it’s one of the broadcast industries main promo creation tools. Can take Illustrator files and then can create 3D logos etc from them. Combine these with ProAnimator 3D text and movement, easy. Heaps of styles and texture to work with. Again lots of flight/movement presets but all can be modified/retimed etc and saved as your own. Export sequential TGAs, AVI or MOV files, your pick! If you watch ABC, CBC, NBC, CNN etc you have seen this program in action. Check out its capabilities with some of the online showcase files at:

    https://zaxwerks.com/movies/index.shtml

A pinch of this and a pinch of that plus some fairy dust and sparkles out of Particle Illusion and you can create graphics and text anims that look like they cost mega-bucks but in reality cost little to create but can make your Vegas productions look like ‘very top draw’ productions.
