are you working with embedded color management? and is your monitor set to 1.8 or 2.2 gamma and the editing programs look the same in terms of brightness? Prores and dvc-hd cause gamma shifts.

winamp might be using a different proprietary decompression codec than windows media player. If you have ffdshow, you can force certain fourcc coded videos to play with specific output codecs, but I don’t know if winamp will even then obey, much less being programmed right.:D

have you put any AF 6.5 or older effects plugins in 7.0? That causes diagonals.

This method below is used professionaly for movies. Also soundforge is good.

After Effects itself will do a remarkably good job of this stretch if you follow these instructions: Import your audio separately from your video. Place it in your fps comp. With your footage selected, reveal the tab for Stretch (or select Time Stretch from the Layer Menu) and enter %. Now from the Layer Menu select Enable Time Remapping. This last step is very important as it triggers After Effects to use a very high quality audio re-sampling technique.

AE’s ramp effect is 16bpc. Perhaps you used some effects that aren’t 16.
right click effects box and select show only 16 compatible.
