this does local contrast with levels. I think it works extremely well, and best of all, it’s free! You can also see how it would work with sharpen as well as unsharp.

It’s pretty straighforward from the motionscript website how to do it, and Dan in the expression forum here is the guy who actually made the webpage and more than likely wouldn’t mind helping you tweak your expressions up a bit.
There’s like a million posts on here you can search out but the best effects I have found are cc vector blur and particular, they are simply amazing plugins. Videocopilot has a bunch of fire videos too that focus on details like small particles and smoke. Those sell a lot, but the most important thing to remember is that both the intensity AND the interval have to be random.

use an “obscuration” layer to modulate the intensity of the light source on another layer so that the wiggle of the fire brightness will affect the actors. It looks very convincing. Good luck.

maybe another option was timewarp or twixtor your final render so that the framerate changed but not the speed. just a thought.

well i know that if you place a 29.97 fps interlaced into a 59.94 fps or basically double the comp fps, AE will give each field there own frame you can look at. I don’t know if this helps exactly.

garbage in, garbage out. depending on the bitrate, you’ll lose some quality but at least you’ll have a better master. Even LOTR would look bad on vimeo.

hi, this post is a little late but I can say that most people get away with not using color management because the sRGB of your monitor is close to sdtv and hdtv which are very common. This won’t give professional results, but in a pinch, it works. For color management to work, you’ll need to know the original color profile of your footage, what you are going to work in, and the output profile of where it’s going. Needless to say, it’s very complicated. Read adobe’s white paper on color management to learn the basics.

it’s one of two things, either you don’t have rasterized switch on layer AND precomp, even if the image supports it(non-bmp, vector capable) or you need to render out a higher quality file such as Tiff 16 bit(project settings 16 or 32bpc too!) trillions+ lzw off. Prores is only 4:2:2 and red and yellow explode with 8 bit or 2:2 chroma.
