openexr is almost, almost there. unfortunately, even though it makes small files, if you do extreme tests and compare the rgb pixels, some data actually gets changed at the single digits. The only 2 I have ever tested that are mathematically perfect are Tiff with LZW turned off set to trillions of color and psd to trillions. but Tiff was created for archive in mind and is cross platform compatible.
if you don’t mind the small change in data, openexr is much more practical for file size and many people use it. and you’re right, there’s different compression settings in openexr.
the nice thing is that it is hardware and operating system independent and open source which is a plus down the road.
you should read the section on Managing un-premultiplied color channels. It recommends premultiplied mattes.

you can also try precomping the ae project, turn off color management then apply color profile converter and set the preset to the same as color profile as your monitor’s native profile. Now when you use premiere, it will have perfect color fidelity.

try this demo plugin for premiere pro. it should fix it. it enables more support for video codecs. it fixed my mpeg videos for premiere.
also make sure that your framerate sequence matches your actual video speed.

would it bother you to sync external sound up? zoom h1n is less than $99

it runs at a different speed and re-cuts won’t match the conformed edit without proper handling

since you have compressor, if you don’t mind the slight change in clip duration, its very simple. the video and audio both get conformed equally and as a bonus, the audio pitch gets automatically corrected as well.

i made an update to the blow out fixer. it now supports jpg or lower quality 8 bit video.

you need to consider:
all lavs, shotgun mics and wireless systemslav- would be countryman lav. or Audio-Technica ATR3350 if there’s not much wind.
shotgun- a rode ntg(1,2,3)/VideoMic, you can make your own boom pole if you have too.
wireless- g3.so, if you’re absolutely, $120 or less, get the zoom h1n and the ATR3350. If outside, use its windscreen and you can also make 2 triangles shapes out of gaffer’s tape and sandwich it in between them so you don’t get clothes noise. Then in adobe audition, smooth out the sound by use studio reverb at 100hz at bare minimum settings and lower the 16k. raise 192kz and 1120 hz for voice. finally use multiband compression so that the audience doesn’t get a heart attack when there’s a sudden increase in volume.
anything below this minimum sound quality and your video will suffer beyond the point of resuscitation no matter how well it’s edited.

the magic has 13 f-stops and raw. 1080p, in ProRes 422 (HQ) or lossless CinemaDNG 12bit RAW.
the other has like 4 stops and no raw 8 bit and a very limiting color profile.
one is for serious video quality, the other is for picture taking.
