24fps animation to 25 fps pal
Posted by Peter Giffen on March 27, 2009 at 2:39 pmDigital video files,(24fps) quicktime video. How does one go about converting it to 25 fps the same way you would smoothly convert it to 30 fps for broadcast?
No fielding problems or drop frames or hiccups during camera pans.”I have done this in AE for broadcast 29.97 by adding pulldown, is the process the same for 25fps pal?
thanks in advance

March 28, 2009 at 12:32 amif you don’t want to mess with a pitch or duration change of your clips, you can use optical flow plugins like timewarp and twixtor to change the framerate and leave the duration and audio pitch the same.
But then you run into pitfalls of the plugins getting confused and created gloopy cuts unless you separate the clips manually or use dynamic link on original premiere cuts.
Simply dropping different fps into different fps comps can make AE drop frames or stutter without plugins, that’s why interpreting them as something they are not works so well, at least down to to a point.

March 29, 2009 at 1:58 pmInstead of using Interpret Footage to change a footage item’s frame rate, you can time-stretch a layer based on the footage modifying both the speed of audio and video.
So basically if you want to go the timestretch route 23.976 and 25 fps.
1. leave interpret footage alone
2. set same fps for comp as actual footage fps (maintain non-interpolation)
3. timestretch that layer so that both audio and video get stretched simultaneously.PAL to NTSC 25 to 23.976 is 104.2708333333333%
NTSC to PAL 23.976 to 25 95.9040959040959%4. place it as a precomp in new desired fps comp

August 23, 2013 at 11:34 pmHi Chris,
I have a NTSC 23.976fps (progressive) Apple Pro Res 422 master .mov file and a distributor in the UK is asking for a PAL 25fps (interlaced) Apple Pro Res Master. I tried to do a conversion via Adobe Media Manager, but I get the strange motion blur and softness.
I think you are saying how to do it in your previous posts, but I’m confused over your later posts that say, disregard this number and use this one. Basically I can’t tell when you are “correcting” yourself and when you are saying something “in addition” to your previous posts.
Would you mind writing an exact step by step procedure from start to finish including how to get the audio done without change in pitch. Thanks so much!
Elias
PS: I have access to FCP 7 & Compressor, Adobe After Effects CS6 & Media Encoder CS6, HairerSoft Amadeus Pro

August 25, 2013 at 1:48 amsince you have compressor, if you don’t mind the slight change in clip duration, its very simple. the video and audio both get conformed equally and as a bonus, the audio pitch gets automatically corrected as well.
here’s how:
https://documentation.apple.com/en/compressor/usermanual/index.html#chapter=23%26section=5%26tasks=truehere’s how to do the optical flow for compressor if you want duration kept the same:

August 26, 2013 at 3:02 pmThanks Chris, that’s very helpful.
Are there any disadvantages to compressing the film so it has the same length at 25fps as it does at 23.976fps?
Thank you!

August 26, 2013 at 9:44 pmit runs at a different speed and re-cuts won’t match the conformed edit without proper handling
