whoever did the lighting with wal-mart clamps and a t2i, imagine what they could do with a good lighting kit and a blackmagic! the t2i survived not getting noticable blowout or lens flare and had appreciable detail in the shadows and midtones. kudos! you’ll definitely move up in the ranks.

quicktime png video is smallest size you can get and still be 4:4:4. It’s only 8 bit though
quicktime jpeg video is lossful quality but at 90 or higher, quality stays good.
h.264 has bitrates you can select from adobe media encoder instead, which gives more options. I’d go above 2500.

what i would do is render each one for 10 seconds. then do simple math, final size = 24x(rendered size). then decide which one you like the best.

masking? like black borders? they need to be close to work. I don’t know exactly what you got, but the displacement map
could be created by hand by visually comparing parallax. white is closest and black is furthest, to keying, masking, or
    even a precomposed difference matte.

I still don’t understand how they scanned it so wrong, even if it were another angle, AE’s Corner Pin effect should have worked no problem. also, the Lens Compensation effect should have fixed the focal length(if there was any). Until I see a screenshot, this one’s got me stumped.

just use displacement map set as luminescence/alpha of the other layer that is Gaussian blurred. It is important that both scans are the same size.

you didn’t say what program you were exporting out of. What I would do is…
    1. take the final master clip and import into AE
    2. disable interpretation color management in project settings
    3. apply utility color profile converter , set output to sRGB 1966

now the color should be the same online because the sRGB is standard across the board.

will timeremap all the duplicate footage and delete it, so simply add an equation to do the opposite.

timeremap to select all the non-duplicated footage and delete it leaving only the same stuff or close to it.

  • premiere doesn’t support color management. anything going in that was designed for color interpretation, is going to come out looking messed up. to fix this, the color management has to be burned into the codec before use in premiere.
AE has a free utility that does this. utility profile color converter. burn in rec.709 255 or rec.709 16-235 NTSC or whatever your conform is and they will import/export looking exactly the same. don’t forget premiere has 16-32bpc stuff too. ALSO, Any 8 bit effects will destroy the color.

are you going for cheesy popout effects also known as 2.5D? Think background rotates faster than forground.

AE does have a free displacement matte plugin, coupled with a depth matte(you can hand draw or key), you can create psuedo 3- d distort effects like in film chronacles of narnia 2d to 3d conversion.

Anything more than that, you’re looking at manual labor involving digital matte paintings and hundreds of artists and thousands of hours.

find edges, shift alpha as luminescence, levels-alpha white/black. set as alpha matte for fast blur .2. should smooth the black edges.

linear wipes with gaussuan blur with 6,000 bloom effects on 3-d adjustment layers flying around. add spin for taste. reminded me of superman II, ‘cept I’m more seasick.
